We love a tousled, just-stepped-off-the-beach hairstyle. What we love even more is that achieving it at home on an everyday basis is possible with a little help from the new-generation salt products that give you texture and waves in just a few sprays. We tried and tested a bunch of different brands and chose the ones that are worth investing in. Here’s the lowdown on those that are worth your money.
Sebastian Professional Texture Maker £22.60
My husband uses this and I tried it when I’d forgotten to pack my hairspray on a weekend away. The packaging is indeed masculine, but don’t be fooled, the results are excellent. I applied it on clean, dry hair which I then gave a little scrunch for a messy look. Spray it from a distance to avoid product overbuild.
Original & Mineral Surf Bomb Sea Salt Spray £19
Since cutting my hair short, I’ve been big on texturising sprays to give my hair a bit of volume. What I’ve learnt is that application is key, and choosing a product with a quality nebuliser is crucial to avoid build-up and the dirty-hair look. This product has the best one I’ve come across, delivering product in a fine mist to create perfect waves.
Oribe Maximista Thickening Spray £25
Used by celebrity hairdressers including George Northwood, this one is more subtle, as it’s more of a booster than a wave-maker. I think expert application is key – pull your hair to the side, waft, spray, scrunch – and then I like to rub the waves between my hands to make them a little messy. It smells gorgeous, too.
Bumble and bumble Surf Infusion £22
Wow, is all I can say! This product is now going to be a permanent fixture in my beauty routine. I sprayed it straight onto damp hair, squirted and scrunched. It was honestly as authentic as if I’d just stepped out of the sea and left it to dry, and just as straightforward to use. I am officially obsessed.
