When it comes to make-up, sometimes it’s hard to part from old favourites, and also to know where to spend your money. So we’ve tried and tested as many new red lipsticks as we could find, to bring you the edit of our top four favourites. From girlfriend to girlfriend, here’s the lowdown on the shades we think you’re going to love.
MAC Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolour in Fashion Legacy £17.50
This is possibly the boldest and most intense red I have ever encountered and the most long-lasting one too. It goes on like a lipgloss and almost instantly dries to a beautiful super-matt red. I would recommend it for evening dos, as you’ll be able to eat and drink without a smudge.
By Terry Rouge Expert Click Stick Hybrid Lipstick in My Red £25
I’m unsure about the applicator’s funny shape (apparently it’s for precise contouring), but the shade and consistency of this lipstick is just how I like it. It glides on your lips with a moisturising feel and a satin, matt finish.
& Other Stories Lipstick in Farandine Red £12
This & Other Stories lipstick is a classic fire-engine red. It goes on super-smooth and although it has a little too much shine for my taste, it’s nothing a blot with tissue paper can’t remedy. Great colour for a great price.
Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm in Standout £7.99
I’m a matt lipstick fan and am always on the lookout for a new shade of red. Revlon’s oversized chubby stick is a wonderful burnt red that’s perfect for winter. And despite it being matt, it’s not drying but silky to apply – and it stays put.
