The Summer Dress
You’d be hard pressed to find a label that screams summer quite like Gül Hürgel. The Turkish designer’s unashamedly feminine dresses feel brilliantly fresh, yet her SS17 collection is firmly rooted in the retro glamour of the 50s and 60s. Made from light cotton and linen, the uncomplicated collection is full of easy dresses and versatile jumpsuits that work just as well for lazy summer afternoons in the city as they would on the French riviera. If, like us, you’re more comfortable in a midi than a mini and love the laid-back feel of timeless classics, then this designer is the one for you.

Gül Hürgel, creative director and founder of the eponymous label, studied at the legendary Parsons School of Design before being urged by friends and family to set up her own brand – she did so in 2015. The Turkish-born designer’s globe-trotting upbringing and her current lifestyle in Istanbul influenced her most recent collection, with gingham and stripes bringing a touch of retro glamour.
From picnics to weddings and garden parties, this is the perfect summer dress for every occasion. The thing I love most about it, though, is that it's chic enough to wear to an event but still beautifully unfussy and simple
