In conversation with Inès de la Fressange
Ask anyone in fashion, ‘Who would you like to be when you grow up?’ and the answer is likely to be Inès de la Fressange. Wise, effortless and assured, her style is the epitome of Parisian chic. Her 40-plus years in the industry have taken her from model to Chanel muse, via designer, businesswoman and best-selling author, and she has been awarded the Légion d’honneur for services to fashion. So who better to talk wardrobe essentials and ageing gracefully than the self-confessed shopaholic…
As any true tastemaker will tell you, style is not a question of money but mastering the right ingredients. It is why Inès de la Fressange describes the fashion tutorials in her new book, Parisian Chic Look Book: What Should I Wear Today? as ‘recipes’. She believes, just as we do, that women can use the basics already in their wardrobes – with an added touch of spice – to conjure up something delicious. But then the witty, warm and self-deprecating mother of two has always embraced fashion rather than being ruled by it. It is why at 59 she still charms the industry – the brand ambassador for Roger Vivier has her own line, Inès de la Fressange Paris, a capsule collection for Uniqlo, a weekly style newsletter and much more besides. And women worldwide really relate to her look; her first book, Parisian Chic, was a New York Times bestseller, shifting more than a million copies. She juggles all this with such grace – we couldn’t wait to find out more.
