In conversation with Alice Temperley
Alice Temperley founded her eponymous label in 2000 and quickly established herself as the first port of call for exquisitely embellished eveningwear and dresses peppered with her signature Victoriana/silver-screen influences. We caught up with Alice at the Paris shows to discuss the importance of knowing your body type and always being yourself.
You have to have to hand it to Alice Temperley. No matter what fashion diktats are thrown our way, the Somerset-born, London-based designer has always marched to the beat of her own (colourful and eclectic) drum. The confidence of her modern-bohemian aesthetic has paid off: her roster of very glamorous muses includes Dree Hemingway, Caroline Issa and Laura Bailey, who readily lap up high-wattage eveningwear, yet also embrace her predilection for sharp tailoring, and a design philosophy which juxtaposes feminine silhouettes with a masculine edge. Besides a brand which includes a strong ready-to-wear collection and a bridal range, Alice is almost four years into designing a critically acclaimed collection for John Lewis. It’s not hard to see why. Are you after the perfect pair of riding boots (growing up in the country, she’s quite the expert!), the ultimate white shirt or simply sumptuous underwear? Well, look no further…
