  • Hotel spa reviews

To soothe the effect of January on our moods, we can think of nothing better than making some me-time and getting pampered. We tried out four spa packages at some of London’s top hotels to bring you an edit of the best treatments.

    Laura & Petro
    The Berkeley Bamford Haybarn Spa
    OSKIA Renaissance Mask£51

On the 7th floor of The Berkeley Hotel in Knightsbridge, surrounded by a secret garden and temple-like pool, you will find my happy place: The Bamford  Haybarn Spa. I’m a huge fan of Bamford products and I’ve had memorable massages there before, so I was really keen to experience a few more of their treatments. I opted for a Bamford Signature Massage (90 minutes, £175) and a Oskia Quick Fix Facial (30 minutes, £70). The massage starts with a warm foot soak infused with rosemary and eucalyptus bath salts, after which you get to smell three different body oils – your body ‘tells’ you which one you need for the ultimate holistic experience. I moved on to my facial feeling utterly divine. I was a bit sceptical about the words ‘quick fix’, but I was blown away by the results. The facial (ask for Nicolette) includes a targeted exfoliation and deep cleanse, followed by a soothing facial massage to stimulate circulation for a fresh, natural glow.

    Beaumont Spa & Gymnasium
    Pai Hydrating Cleanser£28

The Beaumont Hotel in Mayfair is the sort of place you might imagine Don Draper would spa – cool, retro and with interiors that leave nothing to chance. Replacing new-age music with soothing jazz, it’s not the girliest of places, but the treatments I experienced were excellent. I opted for the Total Relaxation Package (2 hours 45 minutes, £240), and they suggest you arrive early to make use of the sauna, steam room and cold pool – I did and it really helped get my body ready for my treatments. I then went through for my hammam treatment, which incorporated a cleanse and all-over exfoliation with savon noir, followed by a scrub, warm clay wrap and relaxing head massage. All rinsed and with baby-soft skin, I was moved into another room for a 60-minute full-body massage (to which I fell asleep). To finish, I received a Pai Pure Hydration Facial with cleansing, toning, mask, face massage and moisturiser.

    Spa at Four Seasons
    The Organic Pharmacy Body Scrub£45

‘Light’, ‘airy’ and ‘fresh’ are the words I would use to describe the Spa at the Four Seasons – unlike the rather grand entrance, this is understated luxury. On the 10th floor, the treatment rooms have spectacular Hyde Park views, and there is a pristine hydro pool, sauna and steam room. I had a Hyde Park Awakening package created by The Organic Pharmacy (80 minutes, £175). The treatment includes an aromatic foot soak, an invigorating head-to-toe bamboo and calendula scrub, followed by a deep, relaxing massage. My therapist Mia Mihaylova was attentive, with magical hands – I felt instantly relaxed with her and after 60 minutes I was completely asleep. This is a great luxury treatment for some rest and relaxation, perfect after long-haul flights or before a holiday. Give yourself the day here to truly get the benefit of the treatment and the five-star spa facilities.

    Rosewood Sense Spa
    SkinCeuticals Hydrating Gel£61.95
    The Rosewood

In many ways, Rosewood is the opposite to Four Seasons – it is cocoon-like, with plenty of rich dark mahogany. I found it comforting and cosy in winter, although it’s perhaps not for the claustrophobic. In the Rosewood Sense Spa you will find the Face Place, clinical facial specialists from LA. Their facial (70 minutes, £140) combines facial vacuuming, LED lighting, a skin peel and a vitamin C infusion. All the equipment looks rather terrifying, but is surprisingly relaxing and soothing – it’s the best mix between a medical and relaxing facial that I’ve had. The detox treatment targets sugar-induced blemishes, alcohol-induced dehydration and late night skin dullness. So it’s perfect post-Christmas… My face looked instantly less bloated and firmer. I also left completely glowing – their USP is that you can get married on the same day as the treatment and I can vouch for that. However the best results are the days afterwards when your skin radiates health. I would recommend a visit to everyone in need of an instant skin fix.
