In Conversation with Linda Rodin
Pah! Forget supermodels reinventing themselves in their forties. Linda Rodin, the sublime 68-year-old fashion stylist, has pulled it off in her sixties. It’s hard to fathom that mixing up her favourite oils at her kitchen table would produce a brand that Estée Lauder would come hunting for a few years later, but snap it up they did. Today Rodin has 100 stockists globally and counting. For the lowdown on why we should avoid fillers yet invest in denim, look no further. This is the template for growing older with vim, wit, panache and self-deprecation by the bucketload…
Aside from a brief spell in Italy in her twenties, Linda Rodin is a New Yorker to her very core. The petite, whippet-thin beauty guru and fashion stylist, with her signature ponytail and oversized glasses, has been likened to a later incarnation of Carrie Bradshaw. Perhaps it’s the zany pace of the Big Apple which keeps her looking so fresh-faced. She puts it down to a healthy diet, a lot of sleep and constantly moving. Her 40-year career as a stylist has seen her work for US Harper’s Bazaar, Vogue, Revlon and Victoria’s Secret. Her latest foray beauty-wise is the launch of her uber-chic collection of lipsticks in pigmented shades (“they’re a creamy matt not a dry matt”), named after her heroines who – no surprise – have more than a dash of derring do.
