A sun hat is a beach holiday essential. I like floppy shapes in fabrics that don’t crease or break when placed in your suitcase. They are hard to find so when I do I always buy a couple. If you are packing a delicate hat, make sure you fill it with your lingerie and swimwear and then place it at the centre of your suitcase to prevent it from losing its shape.

Sunglasses are the finishing touch to my beach outfits and I like to have something just right for every look. I always pack a classic pair to go with my preppy looks, (in this case my Ray Ban Wayfarers), a “cool” pair to jazz up even the simplest bikini (I love Laura Imami) and a retro pair (Valentino) to give my outfit an old world feel.

I seldom wear heels on a beach holiday, but pretty sandals can look just as striking. Everything I take with me has to have a purpose and a place so I bring different styles to go with different types of clothing: gladiators for maxi dresses, sling-backs for the beach, fringed for kaftans and a pair of smarter sandals for evening do’s.

I always pre-pack all the things that are going to live in my beach basket to avoid forgetting any of my beach essentials.
