With a career spanning both fashion and interiors, brand founder Emma Milne-Watson is no stranger to creating beautiful things. However, it was during the pandemic that she turned her creative energy to jewellery. Seeking an outlet while homeschooling her children, she rediscovered her bead collection in the attic and, with the help of her daughter, started making necklaces.
What’s the most treasured piece in your personal jewellery collection?
My turquoise and star necklace that my best friend and jewellery designer, Jessie Western, made for me for my 40th birthday. And my Jessica McCormack eternity ring that my husband gave me for our 20th wedding anniversary last year. I never take them off.
Where do you find inspiration for your beautiful colour combinations?
I find inspiration from so many things, but mainly nature, flowers, and especially art. I’m quite an emotional person, so often this comes out when I’m designing pieces. It’s like my mood will dictate the colours I combine.
What are your tips for layering necklaces?
Go for different lengths. I have three necklaces I wear every day: one very short, which sits just under my neckline, one that sits a few centimetres underneath, then a very long chain, which is mainly hidden under whatever I’m wearing, but which I know is there. I also think layering different styles always works well: one vintage, one modern and one fun, colourful style.
Which other small brands do you admire right now?
Dorsey, Jessie Western, Sophie Keegan, LINE&JO, Marlene Juhl Jørgensen and Alighieri.
How do you keep your jewellery collection organised?
I have very shallow drawers in my chest of drawers that I fitted out with Muji felt dividers. I organise everything into these. I also have hooks in my dressing room where I hang all my beaded jewellery, so the colours are on display, like a piece of artwork.
