  • Bath-Time Rituals

We firmly believe that baths save lives. OK, maybe we exaggerate, but at the very least they can restore, revive and de-stress. The first step is often the hardest one: carving out a decent amount of time, alone, in the bathroom. No little knocks on the door. Zero interruptions. The next part, deciding which nourishing bath products you’ll be using to aid you on this relaxing journey, is actually fun. And if it’s been a while since you treated yourself to something indulgent and you’re not sure where to start, let us help. These products last forever (sadly, because a long soak is not a daily occurrence for most of us), so it’s worth getting something you’ll really enjoy. To that end, we’ve been soaking to ensure you buy the best. It’s a tough gig, but someone’s got to do it.

    G.Nite Bedtime Bath Soak£30

What I love about GOOP products is that I always learn new things. For instance, this formula recommends something I’d never realised: to maximise the relaxing benefits of a soak, you need to go to bed as soon as you get out of the bath. So I now wait until just before bed if I’m going to treat myself to a long, hot bath, and it does seem to make a difference. I drift off faster. The formula – which helps with back and shoulder tension – does turn your bath into a kind of muddy mess, but the scent is so intoxicating it’s worth it. In addition to salts and minerals, the blend contains sandalwood, lavender and passion flower.

    B Silent Bath Oil, 125ml£70

I really trust the way Bamford products are made – they are super-concentrated, which means they’re not only effective, but last quite a bit longer than other formulas I’ve tried. And since a weekly visit to their spa isn’t an option, this concentrate is the next best thing. It leaves my skin feeling soft and I definitely feel the stress of the day melting away when I add it to the bath. In fact, sometimes I take a deep whiff of it in the morning too, just because it smells so good. The formula contains a blend of organic chamomile, lavender flower and vetiver root, with apricot kernel oil to nourish skin.

    Nº5 The Bath Gel£55

This insanely chic body wash is so much more than just a beautiful bottle. There are a few things that make it a real standout. After a long, hot soak, my skin doesn’t feel dry or tight, but because this is a gel-formula, it also doesn’t feel coated with residue in the way that some heavier bath oils have in the past. So if you have a favourite moisturiser, you could still smooth that on afterwards. Perhaps my favourite thing about this, though, is the light, fresh scent that lingers on my skin for a few hours post-soak, spiked with those delicate No. 5 floral notes.

Relax Deep Bath & Shower Oil£49

If you struggle to get to sleep, add this magic formula to your bath and get ready to hit the pillow – hard. It’s also just the thing after a stressful day. Just a few drops of this rest-inducing, amber-coloured blend in your bath is all it takes. The oils include vetiver, lavender, ylang-ylang and chamomile (which moisturises and soothes), while the scent is a distinct vetiver and sandalwood. And while it’s true that most people feel relaxed after a bath, this really takes the unwinding to the next level. Like, you should not drive or operate heavy machinery after bathing in this stuff.
