    Top Tips

    • When wearing socks with sandals, opt for ones with a wintry feel: velvet works particularly well, as do metallics and embellished styles
    • Sandals with wide straps, chunky heels and a little bit of a platform are the best styles to work the trend with
    • With glitzy sandals, wear plain knitted black or grey ribbed socks – when doing the opposite, opt for lurex, patterned or fishnet
    • As well as the overall pattern, look at the front and the heel of the sock: does it have any seams? Remember these will be on show

    Exposed Socks

This is a tricky trend to pull off but, if you manage to, it’s a pretty cool one. We bet that with a little bit of encouragement many of you will dare to try it. Even though exposed socks might seem an impossible trend if you don’t work in fashion, there are actually lots of ways to make it wearable. At least it will double-up the wear of your summer sandals and slingback shoes throughout the colder months – for that alone, it’s worth a try.

    Top Tips

    • When pairing with open-back shoes, factor in the grip-factor: sheer styles like fishnets with subtle dots work best
    • If sandals are too much for you, try testing the trend with a simple wool sock worn with your ankle boots
    • Be in the know: the best sock brands are Falke and Wolford, but don’t forget to look at trendier sites like Asos and Topshop for purse-friendly options
    • Check out designers for inspiration – Isabel Marant and Marni are two labels we love that embrace this trend on the catwalk
