What does it all mean?
I have always been environmentally aware but ultimately lazy when it comes to my fashion choices. Luckily, buying Icons happens to fall into the category of being environmentally conscientious, as buying for longevity rather than purchasing and keeping pieces for a season ultimately creates less waste. However, if this isn’t enough and you want to shop truly eco, here are the terms you should really be looking out for.
We are all in this together. We not only need the fashion companies to change; we need consumers to change their mind-set about clothing.
– Eileen Fisher
Before being introduced to certified dying techniques, by Eileen Fisher, I had no idea how harmful they are to the environment and the people working with them. Bluesign is a technique that uses very low toxic dyes, which means less wastewater is used in cleaning. Saving on energy and water, whilst being safer for to work with. Sadly not many fashion houses employ this technique but perhaps with a little consumer pressure they might.
