Amy & Laura in Paris on our cover shoot
Every year when the clocks change, I breathe a sigh of relief. I’ve made it through winter and spring is here!
For me, this is one of the most exciting times of the year. The longer days, the warmer weather and the wardrobe switch-up. I love the ease of slipping into a dress and sliding on a pair of sandals. The simplicity of it is just so liberating. As much as I want to be all about the frills and flounces, I am a practical dresser at heart.
With the new season, comes our Spring Heroes shopping list. Basically, Petro and I do a virtual shopping haul and then model all the pieces we’ll be investing in this season. It’s a bit of a wish list really, but I like to have a few special things I really want for the season and then work towards owning them. These are pieces that make us feel excited now, but that we know will be worn for many seasons to come. The kind of easy-to-style, multi-taskers that make getting dressed in the morning effortless.
And on the subject of easy dressing, our cover star Amy Smilovic, Tibi’s founder, happens to be the perfect ambassador for that no-nonsense dressing that I love so much. You don’t often meet a designer who urges you to mix her own latest skirt with other designer items, but Amy is super-practical. And we find it so refreshing. Also, good news: if you loved my ribbed green knitted ensemble last season, you’ll be as happy as I was to learn that she’s making it in red and navy next season. That’s because she will never “make you fall in love with a shape or colour only to never propose it again the following season”. That’s the straight-talking mentality she shares with her Instagram followers (she’s brilliant – do follow her) and one that we champion at Wardrobe ICONS too.
Elsewhere in the issue, you’ll find all of those exciting little bits that say: Yay! Spring! There’s backless loafers, treasure-trunk jewellery and a style sheet on making that switch from knitwear to poplin. Oh, and don’t forget to step-up your SPF now.
