The month of June officially marks the beginning of summer!

And even though it’s not technically so until later in the month, we are dedicating this issue to all things sun-drenched, starting with our California-based cover star, the swim- and resort-wear designer, Marysia Dobrzanska Reeves.

If you are not familiar with her name, let me say two words: scalloped swimwear – does that ring a bell? A former ballerina and long-time surfer, Marysia was inspired to translate her knowledge of leotards and wetsuits into a collection of luxury swim- and beachwear, including the now iconic iterations of scalloped swimsuits and bikinis.

Before the global lockdown, we were delighted to photograph her in her Los Angeles home, where she lives with her husband and two daughters. For the ultimate escape piece, our West Coast contributing editor, Carrie Berle Robertson, takes us on a virtual tour of Marysia’s beautiful wardrobe.

On page 3, I am so proud to introduce one of the most thought-provoking features I have worked on thus far. To mark the release of photographer Julie Adams and editor Georgie Abay’s coffee-table book, This Is Me, we bring you a little taster of their collection of unretouched portraits of real women in their swimwear, alongside the moving stories of their journeys to body acceptance. Our features editor, Frankie Graddon, interviewed Julie for the feature, while I am excited to announce that we have recorded a bonus ICONversation on this meaningful subject that will go live next week. If you are not subscribed to our podcast, do so here to join the conversation.

Elsewhere in the issue, Julie’s beautiful portraits continue to inspire, accompanying our Swim Shop Handpicked Edits, for which I’ve selected the best in bikinis, swimsuits, high-brief sets and, for the first time, mini-me swimsuits for our little girls (what fun that was!).

Talking swimsuits, we are delighted to introduce the latest drop from our swimwear Future ICONS brand, Cossie + Co, including The Ashley, (the only swimsuit I wore last summer) now in timeless black, and The Gemma, a super-flattering high-brief bikini in an array of scrumptious colours. Find them exclusively in our Future ICONS shop.

Petro also had a lot of fun bringing the beach to her home for her Our Obsession feature. Find everything from shell-shaped vases to pieces in rattan to recreate that beachside feeling that we’re all longing for.

Finally, whether you are upping your workout regime or prancing around in the sun, we have two pages full of ideas on what to wear this summer in our activewear Top Ten, while our Unexpected Hero is the playsuit. We’re slightly obsessed with the latter, finding it the perfect hot-weather alternative to our favourite jumpsuits.

Lastly, on behalf of all of our team, I want to thank you for continuing to read, shop and support Wardrobe ICONS throughout these testing months. If I am writing this today, it’s only because of your support.

    Sending you love and warmth,

    Laura (and Petro) xx
