Which, in fashion terms, typically means a deluge of newness as we switch our wardrobes from high-summer style to autumn-ready. However, this year, I have to admit that buying new clothes isn’t my top priority. The events of the past six months have affected so many things, not least how I consider my wardrobe. I feel a renewed sense of gratitude for what I already own, and a desire to maximise it to its full potential, while still ensuring I look and feel seasonally relevant. With this in mind, we’ve dedicated our new-season issue to the classics; the pieces we all already have in our wardrobes that, with a styling refresh or considered transformer, will take you into the last few months of the year in style.
First up, the Autumn/Winter 20 Trend Report. We were delighted to see so many designers champion true wardrobe ICONS on the catwalk, offering inspiration on how to re-wear them now. From trench coats to roll necks, riding boots to knitted dresses, take a look on page 2 to see the rundown of our favourite ideas.
Speaking of wardrobe ICONS, in this issue’s Handpicked Edits, Petro and I have curated our new-season staples. Think tried-and-tested wardrobe essentials, as well as the key updates that we’re investing in to breathe new life into our existing collections. While our lists won’t scream ‘brand new’, they are filled with the pieces that will prove endlessly desirable.
With most events still off the agenda, we’re looking to pieces that offer comfort, versatility and practicality for our home-based everyday. For me, trousers sit at the top of this list, so I took a stroll around Notting Hill to showcase seven classic styles and how to respin them for now. We also shine a light on this season’s go-to autumnal shoe: the classic lace-up boot, which I’ll be using to add purpose to my day-to-day outfits, from dresses to cargo pants. And continuing on this theme, we celebrate luxury heritage footwear brand Church’s in our Spotlight On feature.
Finally, because every season deserves a splash of new, we tell you why a statement necklace is the transformer to reach for, and share the activewear upgrades to add to your gym kit.
I hope you enjoy reading this issue as much as we’ve enjoyed making it. But mostly, I hope it inspires you to rediscover and fall back in love with the treasured wardrobe pieces you already own.
Love Laura (and Petro) xxx
