    Ed’s Letter

Now, more so than ever, my motto is: make the most of every occasion.

When I think back to this time last year and all the cancelled dinners and deflated plans, it makes me all the more appreciative of the glitz and glamour of the festive season ahead. At the time of writing, the situation is looking a little uncertain due to the newly identified Covid-19 variant, but here at W.ICONS HQ, we are remaining optimistic.

My event schedule kicked off a couple of weeks ago, and when planning my outfits I noticed I was gravitating towards the dressiest pieces in my wardrobe. Sequins, feathers, velvet, high heels – I want it all…  I couldn’t be more excited for party season! This issue embraces that sentiment by dedicating every page to an unbridled celebration of all things partywear.

To begin, there’s our Get The Party Started shoot. I am always interested to find out how others master party style, so we asked five inspirational woman within the fashion sphere to share their ultimate make-an-entrance outfit. From Lucy Williams’ feathered LBD to Lisou founder Rene Macdonald’s dance-floor jumpsuit and Deborah Brett’s scene-stealing ball gown, it’s clear that I’m not the only one taking dressing up to the max . Our glamorous line-up includes friends both longstanding and new. It was a real joy to have former cover-star Jasmine Hemsley, along with her baby, on set, and I loved meeting sustainable fashion advocate Andrea Cheong, whose style I have long admired on Instagram.

You will notice there is one face missing from the shoot. Our very own Petro Stofberg wasn’t well on the day, but still lends her expert occasion-wear eye to this issue via her party picks. The thing I admire most about PS’s approach to dressing up, is that she never lets the outfit wear her. Even when opting for a high-octane platform sandal or statement evening trouser, she has a way of putting pieces together that oozes low-key fabulousness.

Speaking of fabulous, no party look is complete without a pair of wow-factor shoes. Our shopping editor Florence has sought out the best heels and flats to suit every style. We also spotlight purveyor of dazzle, Swarovski, and show you four ways to wear the party piece that team W.ICONS can’t get enough of this year: the velvet suit

The mood for opulence extends to our beauty kits, and in this issue’s Ask Ava column, our expert illustrates how to create a sophisticated glitter eye. Whether you go for subtle shimmer or full-blown disco ball, a touch of glitz will amp up your after-dark look – and is guaranteed to get you in the party spirit. Plus, Petro and I share our fail-safe glamour-giving products that take us from computer to cocktails in a flash.

And let’s not forget the party hosts. I was taught never to turn up to a party empty-handed, so with that in mind, we’ve compiled an edit of the best gifts to bring your hostess-with-the-mostest

Finally, our much-anticipated W.ICONS 12 Days Of Christmas is almost here! Launching tomorrow (1st December), this dreamy list of prizes, exclusive discounts and experiences is our small way of making the run-up to Christmas even more magical. Make sure you’re following on Instagram for details of how to enter each day, and don’t forget to share it with your friends and family.

We’ve had so much fun creating this issue and really hope it brings a lot of joy. Whatever your plans this party season, even if the festivities end up having to be dialled down, remember that the dress code is simple: Dress up!

    Love Laura (and Petro) xxx

Since Giovanna Battaglia started sprinkling some of her magic over Swarovski as their new creative director, I’ve been in awe of the new releases, like this gorgeous cocktail ring.

Petro Stofberg wearing this black velvet tuxedo suit is up there on my partywear inspiration board.

Ever since slipping on these suede and pearl flats on our shoot, I have not been able to stop thinking about them. Please, oh please, can I find them under my Christmas tree?
