Laura and Elizabeth on our shoot
I will never grow too old to have that September back-to-school excitement…
I know this because, as this issue goes live, I will be in the last few days of my final summer holiday and itching to get back to my desk, ready to plan my autumn outfits and feel excited about the months ahead. So this issue is Wardrobe ICONS’ answer to those back-to-work conundrums I predict you’ll be having along with me.
The question we get asked most at this time of year is ‘what should I invest in this season?’. Who better to answer this than Net-A-Porter’s global buying director, Elizabeth von der Goltz. She is our cover star and a woman I deeply admire. It’s her job to think about how we live our lives and decide the styles, silhouettes and designers we will be coveting. We met her in her London home, where she revealed the key pieces we should spend our money on right now.
If you’re lying on the beach, wondering what you should wear to work next week, we have a few pages that will help with that too. Namely, our Handpicked Edits of walkable heels, office dresses and stylish carry-alls, as well as my Style Sheet, with four easy shirt-and-skirt combinations.
Some of my friends who are in corporate offices like to remind me that not everyone can rock up to work in a Zimmermann floral dress and strappy sandals. So I rose to the challenge and dressed corporate for five days. See the result of my transformation in Style Notes.
And finally, if you’re feeling like your post-holiday skin has seen better days, we have just what you need. I’ve tested all sorts of skin devices and at-home tech (including a face mask that made me look like something from a horror movie), and the good news is some of them promise to improve skin tone, boost radiance and reduce skin pigmentation. Read it all in our tried-and-tested Beauty Focus.
Oh, and don’t forget to listen to the latest episode of ICONversations. I sat down with Elizabeth Saltzman, celebrity stylist for everyone from Gwyneth Paltrow to Sandra Oh, to discuss confidence. And don’t we all need a bit more of that?
