  • Red Lipstick

If there’s one item of make-up that can instantly transform an outfit, it’s red lipstick. A sweep of the classic colour will vamp up the simplest of outfits and introduce a pop of interest to luxury basics, making it the ultimate smart beauty buy. With the turn of the season comes a new roster of textures and shades to fall in love with – here are our four favourites.

    Kjaer Weis

+ Caroline Issa Lipstick in Sucre£44

I like to make the switch to a darker lip for winter, and this Kjaer Weis lipstick is a favourite go-to. The shade is a flattering berry red, which complements autumn’s deep colour palette, while the velvety texture gives a long-lasting matte finish. Press it on with a finger to create a soft, bitten look, or layer it straight from the bullet for an intense effect. I also love the charitable ethos of the brand; 25% of sales go to Women For Women International, which helps female survivors of war rebuild their lives.

Rouge Allure Ink Fusion Lip Colour 818 True Red£31

I really trust Chanel to deliver when it comes to lipstick, and this new formula is no exception. The lightweight texture acts like a second skin on your lips, offering highly pigmented, matte colour that stays on all day long. However, where other long-wear lipsticks can be hard to remove at the end of the day, this one comes off effortlessly with cleanser. I love the tapered applicator too, which gives really precise application.

    Charlotte Tilbury

Hot Lips 2 Lipstick in Patsy Red£28

I am a big fan of Charlotte Tilbury’s lip colours, the poppy-hued ‘Tell Laura’ being one of my make-up bag staples. This winter I have been tempted to switch up my look with ‘Patsy Red’; a new cherry shade that has a flattering blue/red undertone. The matte formula offers a cashmere-soft finish while delivering a boost of plumping hydration, so lips never feel dry. The angled tip mirrors the shape of a lip brush, meaning you can apply with precision straight from the bullet.

Lip Color Matte in Ruby Rush£40

What impresses me most about this Tom Ford lipstick is the dense pigment; one swipe delivers an intense and luxurious hit of orange-toned ruby red. It also has real staying power, so needs minimal application – always a plus-point in my book. The matte finish has a velvety texture, which keeps lips feeling soft and can be dabbed on with a finger for a pretty, diffused look.
