  • Detox Your Beauty Cabinet

The new year is a great time to implement small changes that can make a big difference, and for us this means ensuring our beauty routine is as clean as possible. Not only are natural products non-toxic and therefore better for you, they are sustainably made, and so help the planet. We’ve highlighted the four brands – and products – we couldn’t do without.

    de Mamiel

    Restorative Cleansing Balm, 50ml£62
    Clean beauty - cleanser

I love Annee de Mamiel’s products and subscribe to her ethos of beauty routines rejuvenating the mind as well as the skin. Cleanser is a great place to start when switching to clean, and the Restorative Cleansing Balm is a firm favourite. It removes make-up and daily grime, leaving my skin feeling soft and supple thanks to nourishing kukui, calendula and moringa oils. It also contains probiotics and antibacterial manuka to prevent breakouts. Warm a little in your hands then message into damp skin. Now comes the important bit: press a warm cleansing cloth to your face and take three deep breaths, inhaling the calming scent of the essential oils, before wiping away. Made in small batches on Annee’s Hertfordshire farm, it comes thoughtfully packaged in a recyclable glass jar.

    Dr Barbara Sturm

    Hyaluronic Serum, 30ml£235

World renowned aesthetics doctor, Dr Barbara Sturm’s eponymous skincare range specialises in high-performing yet gentle products that deliver maximum results – and her Hyaluronic Serum is a mainstay in my morning beauty routine. The fast-absorbing, potent formula intensely hydrates my skin and leaves it feeling plumped, smooth and perfectly prepped for tinted moisturiser or CC cream. Combined with a hit of vitamin c – which I apply before hand – and followed by a nourishing moisturiser, this comprises my ultimate winter skincare routine and keeps my complexion looking fresh and glowy all day. Like all Sturm products it is made using non-toxic ingredients in the brand’s in-house laboratory in Germany.

    No.1 Exfoliating Powder, 30g£24

I was first introduced to Vanderohe when the founder, Olivia Thorpe, sent me a few products a couple years ago and I have been hooked on the Exfoliating Powder ever since. Olivia’s ethos is powerful, skin-healing products made using only the highest quality organic and pure ingredients. To that end, the exfoliator is packed with plant powders to shift dirt and polish skin, leaving it radiant and bright. I mix a little in to the Purifying Cleansing Oil to make a paste, then massage all over, avoiding the eye area. The grainy texture feels like it’s really sloughing off dry, dead skin, but is gentle enough for my sensitive complexion. I use this once a week as a thorough cleanse, bit the formula is delicate enough to use as and when you need it.

    Aurelia London

    Botanical Cream Deodorant, 50g£18

A high-performing deodorant is an essential part of my beauty kit (I’ve been a die-hard Mitchum fan for years), so I’ve always been wary of natural products for fear they won’t deliver. However, as soon as I used Aurelia’s botanical deodorant I was converted. The cream-to-powder formula keeps you dry and fragrant through the entire day – in fact, it smells so nice that I get compliments whenever I wear it. It doesn’t leave residue left on clothes and, unlike traditional deodorants, it can be topped up throughout the day – I keep the travel mini in my handbag. Made from sustainably-sourced organic ingredients, it doesn’t contain aluminium, sulfate or parabens. Extra points go to the plastic-free glass pot, which looks beautiful on the bathroom shelf, too.
