This time of year is a funny one…

With spring in sight, we can’t help but think of all those new-season sartorial delights. But with the weather still close to freezing, it’s hardly time to shed that winter coat. So the question is: what do we wear right now? We wanted to dedicate an entire issue to solving this dressing dilemma by encouraging you to fall back in love with your wardrobe staples.

If you’re looking for some styling inspiration, head straight to our ICONS Guide, where I share my tips for reworking the six essentials that every woman has in her collection.

Petro and I thought long and hard about the staples in our own wardrobes and came to the conclusion that no two peoples’ are the same. Your basics are whatever you wear on repeat and should reflect your sartorial personality. With this in mind, Petro and I, along with Editor-at-Large Deborah Brett, have compiled our handpicked edits of personal essentials and discussed why these hallowed pieces make the cut. And because we love hearing from our ICONS Girls community, we’ve launched a new hashtag: #weshowyouwhatnevergoesoutoffashion. Show us how you’re re-spinning your basics by posting a picture on Instagram and using the tag.

We also shine a spotlight on a brand that we’ve started working with, ARKET. A true basics destination, it is a new favourite at ICONS HQ and embodies so much of what Wardrobe ICONS is about. I was delighted to see that it uses organic cotton, metal-free tanned leather and recycled fabrics, and I feel that these sustainable practices go hand in hand with the longevity and high-quality of the brand’s pieces.

And finally, because this is a bumper issue, look out for the newsletter on the 18th of February featuring an exclusive shoot showcasing how we wear the ultimate basic – denim. Make sure you’re signed up so as not to miss out!
