However, this year things are a little different… While some of us will be taking trips abroad, others are enjoying staycations, and many of us won’t be going further than the garden. To reflect this new state of play, we’ve approached our travel issue a little differently.
While it’s still full of all the escapism we love about summer, we wanted to provide you with inspiration for when globe-trotting is firmly back on the agenda. Consider it something to bookmark and revisit when you’re in need of some holiday dreaming.
Speaking of which, for one of this issue’s two ICONS Guides, we asked our ICONS community to share the destinations on their travel bucket lists. From visiting the rice terraces in Bali, to diving into the lagoons of the Coromandel, your suggestions had us discovering new places, remembering old favourites and feeling excited about future travels.
Dressing for a holiday is just as much fun as the trip itself, and we often find that our travel wardrobes are inspired by the places we’re visiting. In our Handpicked Edit, we’ve chosen four of our favourite hotels from around the world and curated a collection of pieces that chime in with their inherent style. Think striped overshirts in Montauk, linen sundresses in Tuscany, retro bikinis in Miami and floral jumpsuits in the Scottish highlands.
Of course, any trip, be it near or far, requires a perfectly packed suitcase. Our resident expert, Laura, has shared her foolproof tips for mastering packing with aplomb. I don’t mind admitting that before I started working with Laura, my packing system involved upending my summer drawer into a case and hoping for the best. However, since following her method, my process has become far more efficient and successful, a testament to her invaluable advice.
Elsewhere in the issue, we handpick the sleek city-ready sandals, and shine a light on white wide-leg trousers – two pieces perfect for staying chic and cool in the city, especially for those of us returning to the office.
We’ve also taken a moment to celebrate resort-wear label Alexandra Miro. Having discovered Miro’s flattering designs three years ago – and swiftly become a big fan – I am thrilled to say we are offering our readers an exclusive 20% discount on the current collection. Simply enter the code ‘TAKE20’ at checkout.
And finally, if you are planning a long journey, or putting on your out-of-office for a few garden-filled days, take the opportunity to catch up on our podcast, ICONversations. In the latest episode, Laura talks to photographer Julie Adams about acceptance and her inspiring new book, This Is Me. You can also listen to Laura Brown discuss the importance of sisterhood, Jasmine Hemsley talk rituals, and our very own Deborah Brett on how to navigate the idea of perfection.
We hope you enjoy reading this issue as much as we’ve enjoyed making it, and that it provides a relaxing, inspiring sense of escape. Until next time!
