This season, I’ve found myself returning to my comfort zone of minimal lines, clean silhouettes and a neutral colour palette. I’m reaching for robust lace-up boots – staples in my wardrobe throughout my twenties – and teaming then with luxe knits and injections of sleek leather and cosy shearling. Over the summer, I fell in love with cardigan dressing, so will be investing in a chunky style to wear as an alternative to a coat or jacket, and belting it with my wish-list item: a Bottega Veneta belt that I spotted last season and haven’t been able to stop thinking about!
“Since March, I’ve been investing in quite a few pairs of gold hoop earrings, to give me polish when I’m on work Zoom calls and make at-home wear feel more pulled together. I love the spiral twist detailing on Laura Lombardi’s versions, which have a subtle ’90s feel, and will give my autumnal outfits an elevating finishing touch.”
RIXO
“A long-time cornerstone in my wardrobe, I’m forever on the hunt for great black dresses, and I think this one, from & Other Stories, excels in design detail and quality. It’s the perfect piece to take me from late summer into autumn (just add boots) and through to winter, when it can be layered up with knits and tights.”
Gucci
“As most events are off the cards this season, I don’t need to invest in heels. So instead, I’m focusing on flats that offer comfort and ease at home. The ballet flat is a classic style that never fails to look neat. I love the leopard spot, which adds interest to everyday outfits.”
Saint Laurent
“My new obsession is the white bag; it feels clean and contemporary, and is the right accessory to give a seasonal refresh to my existing cold-weather collection. Saint Laurent’s cross-body is the chicest of the lot, and the perfect size for the school run.”
Nanushka
“I live in leather trousers during the winter, but wanted an equally versatile alternative for the autumn months. I recently bought Nanushka’s faux-leather skirt and have fallen in love with its luxe, butter-soft touch and flattering wrap-around silhouette. As temperatures drop, wear with knits and boots.”
“I firmly believe that knee-high boots are something that belong in every autumn/winter footwear collection. Use them to render lightweight long-length dresses cold-weather appropriate, or to update your classic jeans. The minimal detailing and timeless colourway make these, from Arket, a smart investment.”
Raey
“At the start of spring, I bought this cardigan in a soft camel hue and have barely taken it off. So I have decided to treat myself to the black version for the coming cooler months. The oversized, relaxed fit is perfect for layering over autumnal dresses or off-duty denim.”
Whistles
“My simple approach to new-season dressing means I’ll be reaching for jumpsuits on repeat; their one-step appeal makes them the epitome of ease. Tapping into a ’90s mood, Whistles’ utilitarian style will work just as well with trainers as it will with flats.”
Stella McCartney
“I consider sunglasses a year-round accessory and always have a pair in my bag for those bright autumnal days. The ’70s is a timeless style decade that I regularly look to, so I will be donning these oversized aviators from Stella McCartney to refresh last year’s outerwear.”
Stand Studio
“Last year, I invested in a shearling coat, which immediately became my favourite – and most worn – purchase of the winter (and as soon as the temperatures drop, I’ll be unpacking it to wear this season). I’d highly recommend adding texture to your outerwear collection with this leather-trimmed iteration.”
Arket
“Leather trousers are an essential in my cold-weather wardrobe; not only are they endlessly versatile (team with knits, shirts, blouses or jersey), they also deliver on comfort-factor. I love the elasticated cuffs on Arket’s track-pant style, which will look great with trainers or boots as part of my weekend kit.”Â
