    Ed’s Letter

As October dawns and we relax into autumn…

…We see most of our sartorial investments come to life. This is the season when those big-ticket items, such as outerwear, knits and boots, are pulled out of the wardrobe and worn on repeat. So, we wanted to to dedicate this issue to helping our readers navigate what can feel like an expensive time, providing a guide to the smartest investments to make.

The hero piece of autumn has got to be the coat. The fact of the matter is, this is the item you’ll be reaching for all season long. As such, adding the right one to your repertoire can feel like an overwhelming decision. With that in mind, we came up with our Trend Report, which highlights the new-season styles we believe have longevity and offers smart-priced iterations of those seen on the catwalk. From classic navy to teddy textures, there’s plenty to fall in love with.

Speaking of love, Petro and I adored shooting this issue’s All Wrapped Up shoot. Dodging the rain, we managed to spend a fun day outside with a handful of the ICONS team whom we hadn’t seen in the flesh for months! But while we had a great time, the real purpose of the shoot was to showcase the eight outerwear styles we have personally tried, tested and given our seal of approval. We hope it inspires you to buy with confidence, as well as providing some styling ideas along the way.

Never short of a styling idea, our editor-at-large, Deborah Brett, shares the pieces on her autumn essentials list. Deborah is a master of casual style done in a chic, pulled-together way – something we are continuously striving for at Wardrobe ICONS. Let her considered edit impart inspiration for the season ahead.

Elsewhere in the issue, we have our second column from contributing beauty editor, Monikh. With temperatures starting to drop and the weather getting increasingly tough, we’re looking for ways to keep our skin looking and feeling its best. Monikh shares the hydration-boosting, glow-giving products she’s switched to in order to achieve exactly that.

We also take a moment to champion our ultimate solution to winter dressing: the knitted dress. A one-step outfit that’s at once cosy, smart and luxurious, this is the piece I am reaching for right now as I run from desk to school pick-up to grocery shop. I will be adding the navy A.P.C. style from our edit to my basket, and wearing it with another seasonal hero, the knee-high boot. Perfect for wearing under autumnal skirts and dresses, our Top Ten styles all come with ringing endorsements from us. I particularly want to give a shout out to the Arket pair, which give this season’s designer versions a run for their money.

If you are looking for a way to refresh your cold-weather classics, why not try adding a puff sleeve to your collection? I am currently obsessed with knits and blouses with gathered shoulders and find them an effortless option for waist-up dressing which work well on my petite frame. And, finally, I have often been asked how to best style winter capes, so I’m delighted to share four different ways to make them work for any occasion.

I hope you find everything you need in this issue to have a cosy and stylish October!
