…And when I was flipping through this issue, I realised that these sentiments really shine through. Looking ahead, I see opportunities to rediscover what it’s like to feel good in our clothes and to enjoy the ritual of getting dressed to go somewhere.
There is no-one I could think of who is more perfectly suited to capture this energy than fellow Italian (we are both from Florence) and jewellery-designer cover star, Carolina Bucci. Her effortless way with spirited colour and playful design makes her pieces a joy to wear. There are friendship bracelets made from precious stones (one of which I received for my 40th!) and massive heart rings which have the luxurious keep-forever qualities that we demand of anything we include in The ICONS Update. I know you’ll love scrolling through Carolina’s wardrobe and reading her fabulous styling tips and organisational tricks.
Speaking of jewellery design, in my Handpicked Edit, I share my most beloved pieces. Many of us spent 2020 going back to basics and barely glancing at our jewellery boxes or trays of accessories… which is perhaps why I’m thoroughly enjoying the process of putting the final touches to outfits.
Spring is also a celebration of colour, and our Style Sheet focuses on how to wear one of the seasons most on-trend and intuitive ranges of hues: pastels – such as blossom pink, pale sky-blue and soft pistachio. If you consider these colours too sugary for your wardrobe, I challenge you to think again. In my experience, a touch (or even a lot) of pastel can look incredibly chic and modern. Our fashion editor Florence has put together flowing dress and chunky sandals, the ultimate spring power couple, and we also shine a light on the off-duty wardrobe hero, dungarees. For some readers, they may feel too childish, but there is a grown-up way to wear them. We have tips along with an edit of the best styles if you’re ready to invest.
To celebrate Earth Day (22nd April), our beauty editor Ava shows you how make your routine more sustainable, while our features editor Brooke highlights some of the most exciting eco-conscious initiatives in fashion and the brands you can invest in that support them. And finally, who feels that urge to head outdoors and picnic? Us too. Petro has put together a dreamy edit of picnic essentials (including the clothes to wear), because we all know that a successful picnic is a little bit about the location, but mostly about having the right kit.
Wishing everyone sunshine and high spirits,
Laura & Petro xx
