As soon as we discovered SIR., we knew we wanted to delve into the personal wardrobes of co-founders Nikki Campbell and Sophie Coote. The friends founded their resortwear brand with a focus on contemporary, feminine pieces that work just as well for the beach as they do city life; think airy dresses, beautifully cut separates and luxe basics infused with the design duo’s laid-back sensibility, inspired by their Bondi Beach base. It’s no small wonder it’s become one of our sartorial summer destinations.

An acronym for ‘separates’, ‘intimates’ and ‘ready-to-wear’, SIR. strikes the perfect balance between escapism and reality; these are pieces that evoke the effortlessness of holiday dressing, yet are rooted in everyday wearability. Silhouettes are easy, colour palettes considered and prints playful yet timeless. This aesthetic is reflected in the duo’s own wardrobes, where billowing dresses and breezy linen separates of their own design sit alongside modern classics from heritage labels and an eye-catching accessory or two.

During an ease in restrictions, we were delighted to have photographer and good friend, Julie Adams, photograph Nikki and Sophie in their airy oceanside home. Artfully mixing subtle, minimal lines with statement artworks, it reflects the directional yet perennially stylish quality of their collection. And, wow, what a view!

“We have a very similar aesthetic and taste across all aspects of style. Our differences work to complement each other and our brand. We have a shared love for contrasting sharp tailoring with soft feminine silhouettes. Our coastal upbringing has informed our sense of minimal, feminine style which is reflected in our collections. “

“I’m wearing an oversized men’s shirt by Acne, layered with the SIR. Andre mini dress, paired with chunky Prada brogues. I love wearing this outfit for events, or as an evening look.”

“We love to collect accessories, especially during our travels and inspiration trips, when we hunt for vintage pieces. We have a shared collection that we have accumulated over the years, and they are pieces we will hold on to forever.”

“This painting was given to us by our dear friend and Sydney-based artist, Alexandria Park. The aesthetic of our home is relatively timeless with a classic appeal. Similar to the minimalist nature of the brand, it has a very natural feel. Being by the beach, our home instils that coastal feeling with lots of buttery textures and pops of colour through art and feature pillows. Our artworks and sculptural pieces have been collected over time and all have a special meaning to us.”

“SIR. stands for ‘separates’, ‘intimates’ and ‘ready-to-wear’. Each category of the brand has expanded naturally as we have evolved. We had been friends for years and started the label with an intention of filling gaps in our own wardrobes with timeless, minimal and effortless shapes – the kind of pieces you can’t travel without.”

“Flats, for sure. I love a dressy outfit pared back by a chunky sneaker, sandal or brogue. But every now and then, a special heel does grab me, like these Prada points.”

“When we started SIR., we were travelling a lot and working from our apartment, so it made sense to live together. We were living and breathing the business. We were friends before we started SIR. and while we have our moments, as anyone does, we’re like sisters.

It’s been a wild ride, but so much fun.”

“I love a printed tee worn with our suiting range. Our Andre pant has been my winter staple. I wear them with the matching blazer as a set, paired with a sneaker to work meetings, or I dress it up with a heel to go out in the evening.”

“We love a coffee-table book. We have collected these for years, and they resonate with us for unique reasons. We often draw on these for inspiration, to transport us to a different moment in time. Our friends at Merci Maison recently introduced us to a wonderful online bookstore, Maison Plage – they sell small collections of rare vintage books, which is where a few of these gems came from.”

“The SIR. customer has really grown with us over the past two years. Our customer is timeless and minimal, but also knows how to have some fun with their style. We’re in the planning stages for our first flagship store, opening this summer in Bondi, Sydney, which is a big focus for us right now. We have also recently launched a men’s/unisex line and this will be the first space it is showcased in.”

“My jewellery collection is a mix of old family heirlooms and vintage pieces collected during my travels, as well as new designers I’ve come across. I love a chunky industrial chain and a minimal hoop. The trays are crafted by talented Sydney-based designer Albus Lumen – I love anything with a scalloped edge”

“This sheer silk-cotton set was designed to be layered over swimwear. Being a resort brand, we often use sheer fabrications so that our colourful prints and swim silhouettes can be seen underneath. I love white tones with a pop of colour – they feel like summer.”

“Our swimwear is very true to the signature SIR. style – effortless, minimal and classic. It was a natural extension for the brand as we’ve always designed resortwear that goes well with swimwear, so it made sense to introduce SIR. swim to our repertoire.”

“Growing up by the beach, swimwear is a wardrobe staple. SIR. swim is designed as an extension of each collection. We have core styles that are updated with new seasonal prints and silhouettes, which pair with our ready-to-wear for a cohesive summer look.”
