When we launched Wardrobe ICONS, we wanted to create a space where we could showcase truly beautiful investment pieces and analyse what makes them extra special, to help readers make informed, no-regret choices when spending on them. We know how essential it is to get it exactly right when making those larger purchases, so we dedicate our time to making sure you do. However, that doesn’t mean we don’t believe in the buys that sit a little lower on the price spectrum. There is nothing more thrilling than finding an entry-level gem that has all the quality and longevity of a high-end piece and is destined to become a great love in your wardrobe. The trick is finding them. So, we wanted to use this issue to shine a light on the best smart-price pieces of the season. The ones that will make your heart flutter, palms a little sweaty and be worn again and again.
This starts with Dressing Room Diaries. After a lockdown-induced pause, Laura and I were ready and raring to hit the high street and visit our favourite stores. From great coats to beautiful bags, we share the hero pieces worthy of a place in your collection. Our fashion editor – and resident high-street expert – Florence, has also been shopping and found the 20 best buys under £200. WANT. THEM. ALL.
Leather trousers are a core item in our autumn/winter uniforms, and this season there are some brilliant lower-priced styles around. In our Style Sheet, Laura shows you four ways to wear them. We also celebrate one of my favourite wardrobe updaters, colourful trainers (I’ve just bought my third pair!), and the essentials that every jewellery box deserves.
Summer holidays might be behind us, but we’re still in the mood for an escape. Our social media manager Charlotte recently went on a hiking weekend to Wales, which has got us dreaming of cosy UK staycations – and the accompanying wardrobe. Whether you’ve got a country getaway on the cards or you’re just planning an extra-long park walk, our Handpicked Edit has the pieces to see you through in style.
And because our homes are basically extensions of our wardrobes, we’ve found the softly sculptural decorative touches that will add colour and texture for the winter months. Think ripples, ruffles, waves and scallops to be placed around bedrooms, kitchens, tabletops and beyond.
Finally, how great is our cover? We are thrilled to have collaborated with illustrator Love From Lexi, who we discovered on Instagram, instantly falling in love with her beautiful drawings. One for the virtual bookshelf, for sure.
Thank you for reading. As ever, your support means the world. We hope you enjoy the issue, and that it leads you to your next smart-priced treasure.
