At this time of year, I always get an overwhelming urge to spring-clean…
…Not just my house (although there’s nothing quite as satisfying as shedding clutter and airing out each room), but also my wardrobe. The need for a refresh is very real. It’s a celebration of shuffling out of the cold winter months and into an altogether more optimistic period. It’s also extremely practical; getting your spring/summer collection in order at the beginning of the season means you won’t stumble over what to wear as the weather heats up. Plus, incorporating those pieces into outfits now ensures maximum wear. Our aim with this issue is to give you the tools to do just that.
As ever, our focus is on making the most of the items you already own, and this starts with our seasonal shoot. Laura and I have sifted through the catwalks and pulled out the fresh styling ideas that place well-loved staples in a new light, as well as the smart transformers that make classics feel more current. Meanwhile, if you are planning a spring shopping trip, Frankie runs through the eight key pieces that will instantly give your wardrobe a new-season feel. Don’t add to basket without it.
As spring essentials go, a Breton top is hard to beat, so we’re delighted to introduce you to our latest ICONS Exclusive with Charl Knitwear. We know how much you loved our first collaboration, and this – a modern take on the classic fisherman’s gansey – is destined to be a repeat wear all season long. We showcase just four of the ways you can wear it in our Style Sheet.
Sometimes, a little change can make a big difference – that’s how we feel about the silk scarf. The vintage accessory is back on the fashion radar this spring and we love how it instantly adds an injection of colour and print to whatever you’re wearing. Discover ways to style this Unexpected Hero on page 6.
If you’re looking for top-to-toe outfit inspiration, Laura handpicks the best sports-luxe pieces that take athleisure to new elevated heights. Plus, we spotlight one of our favourite designers – and former cover star – Ulla Johnson.
Finally, as the seasonal step-change doesn’t just affect our clothes, we’ve tried and tested glowy spring beauty bases and found the ones worth a spot in your make-up bag.
