  • Deborah Brett’s Road-Trip Hotlist

This summer, I’m heading to the West Coast of America to recreate a road trip I once made with my parents. This means my usual Ibiza attire has been put on hold while I’ve searched for the chicest way to dress practically for canyon hikes, rafting on rapids and horse riding through the beautiful landscapes of sequoia redwoods. Here are the pieces I’ll be packing into my stateside suitcase.

    Deborah Brett

    Alex Eagle

    White Hiking T-Shirt£30

“I love the oversized cut and soft, heavy cotton of Alex Eagle’s Sporting Club T-shirts. There are so many activities to choose from, but it has to be hiking for me.”

    Arizona Love

    Colorado Eva Hiking Boots £132

“I wore Arizona Love sandals while hiking in the Swiss Alps and they were brilliant, so I’ve plumped for the boots this time. They’re lightweight, fully waterproof and have a touch of signature bandana: the perfect mix of practical and fashion-forward.”

    Arket

    Green Packable 2-Way Backpack£45

“A lightweight, spacious backpack is a must-have on every hike. This ARKET style comes in chic black and deep khaki, plus it will also double as my travel tote for the plane.”

    Frame

    Army Green Denim Shorts £123

“I’m not really a shorts person, preferring to wear dresses instead. However, a hiking trip calls for practicality. I love this high-waisted cotton pair in versatile khaki.”

    WRANGLER x LA REDOUTE

    Denim Long Sleeve Shirt £54.45

“I can’t go full Western without the perfect denim shirt. I’m really impressed by this style, which is a collaboration between La Redoute and Wrangler Denim.”

    COS

    Dark Brown Ribbed Tank Top£12

“I’ll be wearing this simple COS ribbed tank underneath denim and flannel shirts. Light layering pieces are essential for changing temperatures.”

    Isabel Marant Étoile

    Divana Checked Cotton-flannel Shirt £127

“I have a collection of checked shirts by Isabel Marant; they’re always so soft and I love the pop of red. They can be teamed with warm separates over the Christmas period, too.”

    7 For All Mankind

    Faded Mid-rise Bootcut Jeans £99

“A slim-fitting bootcut jean is a must for riding through the canyons. I’ll wear these with a simple tank top or a checked shirt.”

    Jessie Western

    Beaded Drop Earrings£190

“I’m switching out my regular hoops for something beaded and handmade. Jessie Western also stocks some of the best Native American turquoise and silver jewellery.”

    Jessie Western

    Jessie Western Cropped Jacket£1,200

“Nights in the desert can get chilly so a warm cover-up is a must. This cropped jacket will also work back in London, with jeans or tailored herringbone trousers.”

    LoveShackFancy

Ivory Santorini Ruffled Crochet-trimmed Cotton-voile Mini Dress £199.33

“This cotton dress would look great with cowboy boots and a blanket coat while sitting round the campfire. Very Little House On The Prairie.”

    Kujten

    Grand Bandana Cachemire Dip Dye£315

“On early-morning and late-night hikes, I’ll be wrapping up in this cashmere blanket scarf. I can wear it around my winter coat back in London, too.”

    Luniform

    Kaki Canvas Cap£142.24

“A cap provides essential sun protection on long hikes and outdoor days. This durable, utilitarian style will work with everything in my suitcase.”
