As we reach our final issue of the summer season, I can’t deny what a joy it has been to be able to celebrate holidays and travel once again. As a sunshine lover (my spiritual home is a beach lounger), spending the past weeks relishing carefree summer style and rediscovering my holiday wardrobe – plus adding in a few new additions – has made everything feel that bit brighter and left me feeling relaxed, refreshed and ready for September.
However, there’s still a good few weeks of summer still to go, so with that in mind, we’ve put together an issue with everything you need to finish the season in style. To kick things off, we’ve paid a visit to Poppy Sexton-Wainwright, the co-founder of ASCENO. Not only is ASCENO one of our favourite brands for summer staples (the Formentera linen shirt is a constant in my suitcase), Poppy’s own laid-back, minimal style is always inspiring – and her sunny personality is a pleasure to be around. She invited us into her beautiful south London home to share her summer wardrobe and how she approaches everyday dressing.
Summer style should be effortless, and one of the ways to ensure that is to build a capsule of versatile, forever pieces. In our ICONS Guide, we’ve highlighted the six wardrobe categories we believe will help you do just that. From statement swimwear to eye-catching earrings, they might not be the first things that come to mind, but they are guaranteed to make your summer box work harder, while delivering a hit of ‘wow’.
As you might have noticed, Laura’s spent the summer in Italy, among the olive groves and trullo of Puglia. Naturally, she’s dressed for the destination and on page 4 she reveals the edit she’s been wearing on repeat. And speaking of summer staples, for this issue’s Style Sheet, our contributing fashion editor Des Lewis, has put together four ways to wear a classic linen shirt for work, weekend, evening and on holiday.
Not every second of summer is spent on holiday, and for days in the city, I’ve showcased the smart essentials I go back to time and again to keep me cool. Plus, we shine a light on the unexpected hero that has stolen our hearts this season: grown-up cut-outs – aka the chicest way to show off sun-kissed skin.
Finally, we’re delighted to have perfumer Maya Nije share the pieces currently on her hotlist. As the woman behind some of our favourite scents, Maya’s nose for a unique find is impeccable. Turn to page 6 to discover her guest edit.
