Thanksgiving is when the festivities kick off and my family start playing Christmas songs and arrange to pick up the tree. Usually, I go home for a big Italian Thanksgiving; however, this year, I am hosting my own – and going all out! I’ve organised flowers, sent invitations from my favourite stationer, Memo Press, and asked my dear friend Fiona Leahy for her tablescaping tips. With celebrations having been stripped back for the past three years, this season I am feeling especially committed to the festive cause. In fact, with times as they are, everything feels like more of a commitment – especially when it comes to what we buy. So, for this issue we wanted to round up the everlasting party pieces that you’ll look forward to wearing every year.
We start with our cover star, Brett Heyman, who is the designer behind iconic bag brand Edie Parker. Brett’s playfully statement acrylic clutches have become synonymous with party style, and her own aesthetic is just as exuberant. When we travelled to New York in the autumn, we were delighted to be invited into her beautiful apartment to take a look around her wardrobe and shoot her favourite evening looks. Turn to page 2 for all the dressing up inspiration you need.
A great party piece is something you can wear again and again, which is why we’ve fallen for the cocktail suit. A quality tailored jacket and trousers comes with longevity and is something that can effortlessly be restyled throughout the season. For our ICONS Guide, we’ve picked the extra-special suits (plus the evening co-ords if suits aren’t your thing) that we believe will provide endless outfit options.
If you make one investment this season, make it a pair of sequin trousers. The thought might feel OTT, but our senior contributing fashion editor, Des, has lent her signature pared-down styling notes to the piece and proven just how easy they are to pull off. Discover four chic ways to wear them in our Style Sheet.
Also in the issue, we’ve compiled the top 10 accessories that work for every party dress code – including my favourite Grace velvet clutch – and found the sparkly shoes that take your LBD up a notch. Plus, we shine a light on heritage fine jewellers Pragnell (if you’re looking for that extra special finishing touch, here’s were to find it) and pick the brains of interiors expert and designer Matilda Goad, to find out which hosting pieces are on her festive wish list.
Don’t miss part two of the issue, which lands in two weeks and features an exciting first for Wardrobe ICONS. I can’t wait for you to see it!
Until then, happy party season.
