Welcome to our annual beauty special…

When we started Wardrobe ICONS, beauty wasn’t something that Laura and I intended to include. However, after launching the first issue, one of the questions we were frequently asked was: “Where is your lipstick from?” We quickly realised that beauty is just as important to our community as fashion. In the same way that we all want hardworking wardrobe pieces, we also want a high-functioning skin and make-up kit that makes getting ready in the morning as easy as possible. So, this issue is all about that, highlighting the products to know about and sharing the tips that make a difference.

We kick off with our fourth beauty awards, which showcase the very best-in-class in skincare, make-up, body and wellness products. Like every year, these awards have been a real labour of love and only include the formulas that we have used and believe are well worth investing in. Whether you’re looking for the best daily SPF, a mascara that goes the distance or a gut-boosting supplement, we’ve included everything you need to look and feel your very best. And because nothing beats a personal recommendation, Team ICONS have shared the products they can’t live without.

Our cover star is none other than the brilliant Ruby Hammer. The MBE-awarded make-up artist has been shaping the beauty landscape for over three decades, and her eponymous brand perfectly encapsulates the ethos of quality over quantity. We were honoured to sit down and talk to her about carving a career that lasts, her beauty go-tos and why, at 61, she’s feeling more creative and optimistic than ever.

We’re also excited to have a Guest Edit from designer and tastemaker, Gala González. As well as having a covetable personal style, Gala is a beauty buff who knows her hyaluronic acid from her vitamin C. Turn to page 7 to discover the products on her list of must-haves.

One of the things we love doing most is championing small brands that have done impressive things and deserve to be thrown into the spotlight. Based on the stunning Rhug Estate in North Wales, Rhug Wilde Beauty uses natural, organic ingredients to create luxurious and effective skincare. We know you’ll love this discovery, so head to our Spotlight On feature to find out more.

On the subject of skincare, in this issue’s Beauty Focus feature, we’ve tried four expert facials that are guaranteed to give wintry skin the TLC it needs. Whether your complexion is sensitive, dehydrated, congested or tired, there’s one to suit every skin type.

Of course we couldn’t have an issue of Wardrobe ICONS without including some styling ideas. On page 8 you’ll find our Style Sheet, which details the winter nail polishes to transform your cold-weather looks.

    Enjoy!
