Timeless style, quality, longevity…
When Laura and I launched Wardrobe ICONS back in 2014, these were the values we felt passionate about. In an industry where the new and the next reigned supreme, we wanted to champion a slower, smarter approach to style and celebrate the classic pieces that are destined to be loved and worn forever. Fast forward to 2023 and our ethos feels more relevant than ever. So we wanted to put together an issue that encapsulates what we’re all about. Welcome to the Classics Issue.
Our cover star is the effortlessly stylish Alexis Foreman. When deciding who we wanted to cover this issue, we felt it was important to have someone who shares our beliefs and commitment to timeless design. Alexis does both. The graphic designer-turned-content-creator has an impeccable eye for long-lasting, quality wardrobe pieces and I have long admired her ability to style classics in a thoroughly contemporary way. On page 5 she shows us around her beautifully minimal Brighton home and tells us more about her considered approach to fashion.
We’re also thrilled to have a guest edit by Nili Lotan. The New York-based designer is industry known for her luxe wardrobe staples that always feel fresh. Find out which pieces are on her hotlist on page 3.
For our main shoot, Laura and I get in front of the camera to bring you our checklist of the classics worth a spot in every wardrobe. We’ve tried, tested and found the very best pieces around, and show you the contemporary ways we’ll be wearing them. Whether used as a shopping guide or styling inspiration, we hope it helps you fall in love with your fashion foundations.
A truly good investment is worth shouting about and the one we’re highlighting right now is the navy blazer. Like all great classics, there are endless ways to wear it. Our contributing senior fashion editor, Des, has put together just four ideas in Style Sheet on page 7. Plus, we shine a light on leather trousers – one of the hardest working pieces you can own. Wear them with knits or a blazer, trainers or heels – simply find your perfect silhouette and enjoy. Turn to page 8 to find the 10 very best.
Elsewhere in the issue, you’ll discover why a fine roll neck is the Unexpected Hero that will endlessly enhance your wardrobe favourites. Plus, LF shares her advice for styling classics with a modern touch in ‘Ask Laura‘.
Finally, don’t miss out on the chance to win a £1,000 beauty upgrade with one of my favourite skincare brands, Susanne Kaufmann. The perfect prize for boosting spring glow.
Good luck!
Blazé Milano is the gold standard in timeless tailoring. This blazer is so versatile that I’ll be wearing it on repeat for years.
It’s the classic cut and mid-wash that make these jeans so enduring. The perfect partner to a simple white T-shirt or cashmere knit.
I’ve long been in a love affair with Converse. I’ll wear this elevated pair with jeans, pant suits and long dresses.
