    To our Winter Coats

When the cooler weather comes, there’s something so comforting about reaching for a coat you absolutely love. When we sat down to discuss the coat issue at Wardrobe ICONS HQ, we realised we all loved completely different styles of coat (honestly, we did not plan this). Read on for our favourites and all the reasons why they might be your perfect match too.

“I bought this from the H&M x Erdem collaboration, and it’s become one of my surprise icons. It’s just so versatile and, because I dress quite plainly, I love that it instantly adds interest, texture and print to whatever I’m wearing. Because it’s faux fur, I don’t feel like I need to be precious and worried about wearing it, so I throw it on like a parka. Plus, leopard is a classic print. If you’re going to buy a faux-fur jacket it’s your safest bet; there’s such a spread in quality with block colours, while this print always looks fab.”

“Every spring and autumn, this is the coat I wear more than any other. I always knew a Burberry trench was a classic choice, but what I wasn’t expecting was how it really transforms whatever you wear it with. For instance, adding this trench makes officewear feel dressier, my weekend wardrobe look cooler, and takes fancy eveningwear down a notch, so it feels less showy and looks more sophisticated. Perhaps the point is that it makes everything you wear look a little more effortless, which is exactly the kind of staple we all need.”

“I’ve always had a thing for red and black check – that kind of American lumberjack vibe. So when I saw this Isabel Marant blanket coat a few years ago, I immediately fell in love. Even though it’s quite a bold pattern, the coat is super-versatile. It works really well with all the alpine and chunky knits I wear in winter, as well as denim and other checks and plaids. And while the boxy shape is casual, when I want it to look a little dressier, the coat is lightweight enough to belt without looking too bulky.”

“My default everyday style is super-casual, so a simple, black Moncler parka is perfect for me. It’s quite an investment but, lucky me, I found this one at Bicester Village. The style works just as well for day as it does for night – perhaps because the matt black colour keeps it looking smart rather than too sporty. And while it gets a little warm on the tube, when it snows I’m the cosiest member of the team.”

“When I first arrived in London from New York, it took me a while to figure out how to dress for this whole ‘four seasons in one day’ thing. My fix was this tailored coat from Jigsaw. Not only does it look smart, but I can layer all my favourite knits underneath, which changes the look of the coat from day to day. And from a practical point of view, it takes me from cool autumn days all the way through winter with some clever layering.”

“A leather jacket is such a cool, iconic style, but I wasn’t sure how often I would wear it, so I bought one from Zara a few years ago. It’s become my most-worn jacket. What I love about a leather jacket is that it just gives everything you wear a cool edge. Plus it works for every occasion and all seasons. During the winter months I layer it over a chunky knit with jeans, or a dress and trainers, switching to ankle boots for the evening.”
