Warmer weather is just around the corner, so we’ve selected the new-season shoes and bags we’d either love to own or have already stashed away in our summer box in anticipation of our favourite season…
Each season we look at our wardrobes and assess what we feel is really missing for the months ahead. Generally we tend to add at least one accessory into the mix. It could be as simple as a trainer or as quirky as an urban basket bag. With this in mind, we decided to dedicate this shopping list to the shoes or bags we have bought or wish-listed and think are worth a minute of reflection. But don’t ponder too long – some of these are so in demand, there are only a few of them left.
A simple tie-up sandal is always a good idea for the summer. This buckled pair from Attico are both beautiful and practical. They’re made from suede and velvet, so will work in the evening as well as the day. The velvet ties also happen to be easy to tie and won’t slip like satin versions.
This bag may seem impractical, but it’s actually very lightweight and holds quite a lot, considering its size. We love the vintage feel of it. The crochet and brass detailing also makes it a versatile bag, which will work both in the day and evening with the majority of your wardrobe.
There isn’t a more classic pair of sandals than these tan leather Saint Laurent slides. They’re the quintessential summer-in-the-city shoe. They will go with all of your wardrobe and you will always feel elegant and stylish, no matter what you team them with. They really are a no-regrets purchase.
Speaking of classics, this Gucci tote will be in your wardrobe forever and then you’ll pass it onto your children, godchildren, nieces or nephews – whoever is most worthy. It’s large enough to carry everything including the kitchen sink, and really is a working woman’s dream bag.
Mango is just nailing it on the shoe front at the moment. This satin polka-dot pair is a great day-to-night slipper and will add a little zhuzh to any look, even a classic shirt and jean combo. Structured basket bags are huge this season – this Topshop version will go with everything and doesn’t cost the earth.
We’re big Mehry Mu fans at Wardrobe ICONS. Laura got this last year and hasn’t stopped wearing it. It is a stylish piece that you can carry all year round, as it seems to work for most seasons. We love the juxtaposition of the formal structure and the casual texture of the fabric. It’s a real ICONS winner.
You’ll see a lot of basket bags repeated throughout the shopping list because, when it comes to summer, we struggle to use anything else. This Donni Charm bag manages to stay city-appropriate thanks to its subtle velvet ribbon – although it won’t be kicked out of any yacht club either.
Oh, how we love an espadrille – our most useful, versatile and hardwearing summer shoe. We both have our classics – the Chanel pair, the Casteñer wedge – so this season we’re going for something a little more fun, with a criss-cross front finished off with a tie around the ankle.
There are very few good bags out there at the moment at good price points (which aren’t raffia), so we couldn’t wait to highlight this Marks & Spencer number. The minimal detailing and interesting shape means it looks more expensive than the price tag and will add something a little extra to your outfit.
We are on the hunt for new trainers and these velcro Isabel Marant ones have our names on them. Not only are they ridiculously comfortable, but the cut on the ankle makes them super-flattering on. We have teamed them with this Staud bag – the perfect example of an urban beach bag. The leather detailing and structure gives it a formal feel, so it will work well with everything from a chiffon skirt to a kaftan.
We can’t get over how good these slides are, considering the price tag. The quality on the finish is exceptional and they are super-lightweight. Despite being faux suede, they actually feel like the real thing – we’re not sure how Mango did it, but they did. They come in black suede too, but we think these will age better.
Wooden wedges are having a comeback and if you’re not in the market to buy a Chloé pair we suggest you take a gamble on these. They are just the right height to be flattering but they’re also walkable, and we are big fans of the 70s-esque orange-tan shade. Plus they won’t break the bank.
A great cross-body bag should be in every woman’s accessory armoury. Not only is it the most practical way to remain hands-free, it is also the most stylish. APC have been doing this style for a while and we love the clean lines of this bag and its timeless nature. The lack of detail means you’ll never bore of it.
A great loafer is a staple we would always recommend investing in. This Isabel Marant version has very delicate studding, which makes it a little different from a standard leather loafer but it adds a wow factor to your look. We don’t normally recommend faux-leather bags, but this structured Topshop number is the exception to the rule.
We think the colour of accessories this season is mustard. It is a surprising neutral that looks great with everything from a little white dress to a denim skirt. The high street also happens to have quite a few great mustard accessories. This embroidered basket bag from Topshop will transform your most basic of staples.
