It’s cold. It’s dark. It’s probably raining. And it’s New Year’s Eve. The RSVP seems like a great idea at the time (“thank God someone else is hosting”), but by 3pm the last thing you want is to dress up and leave the house. This is where a great party outfit that you’re actually excited to wear is totally transformative. We think of it as our party armour – when our look is bringing all the party feels, it’s hard for our mood not to follow suit. It does help that at Wardrobe ICONS HQ we’re self-confessed magpies and love anything that catches the light, but for those of you who normally shy away from sparkling pieces there’s low-key shimmer and indulgent textures too.
Normally we’re all about dressing down tailoring to make it more wearable for everyday. Not so come NYE, when we vamp it up instead. Hyper-feminine pieces like feather-embellished heels and jewel-encrusted bows make the perfect partners to a velvet blazer and shimmering wide-leg trousers.
Rich burgundy with pale pink. It’s one of our favourite colour combinations. Velvet, embroidery, pom-poms and sparkle all compete for attention, so keep hair, make-up and jewellery to an absolute minimum and let the outfit make the statement.
There’s something about cashmere that immediately makes sequins just a little bit cooler. The hair slides and sandals keep your look party-appropriate, but by adding a slouchy boyfriend sweater your outfit moves into that effortlessly chic territory that’s so hard to achieve (and it disguises an over-indulgence in mince pies).
Nothing says party like a sequin. And nothing says New Year’s Eve like a sequin dress. This dress is a statement, but that means it puts in all the effort for you and so the rest of your outfit doesn’t need much planning. Throw this on at the last minute with some simple black accessories and you’re party-ready in a flash.
