    • Change your perception of the slip as a summer staple, and start thinking of it as a layering piece
    • Opt for midi and maxi lengths, which are more suited to cold-weather dressing
    • Layer a thin black polo-neck underneath rather than anything heavier, to avoid a bulked-up look
    • Add a blazer on top to give it a polished finish, and if you have the waist for it, a belt too

    The (Winterised) Silk Slip Dress

You may not have thought of this (hence our Unexpected Hero pages), but a slip dress is great for the winter. First, this 90s staple always looks cool. Second, it’s extremely comfortable. Imagine slipping on your favourite nightdress and then adding layers of soft cashmere underneath or above – bliss! To pull off this look in a grown-up, sophisticated (and seasonally appropriate) manner, we’ve got a few handy tips.

    Top Tips

    • For a relaxed everyday look, throw a generously sized sweater over your slip. Soft cashmere is most comfortable on bare skin!
    • We prefer block colours and anything goes: from black to jewel tones and citrus colours. Simply wear a piece of neutral knitwear on top
    • Shiny silk looks amazing contrasted against fluffy knitwear, so opt for this finish instead of crushed or opaque silk
    • For extra warmth, wear your slip with tights and ankle or knee-high boots. To give it a casual spin, pair it with your favourite trainers
