We’ve tried, tested and tried again to bring you the hard-working products that have earned our stamp of approval.
As devotees to our bathroom routines, we take the matter of hair and body products seriously. Nothing takes up space in our hallowed beauty cabinets that doesn’t deliver five stars on performance and experience. Here are the products that we love the most.
A successful bathroom routine is built on best-in-class fundamentals, and when it comes to shampoo, that’s never truer. For those seeking a volume boost, look no further than Christophe Robin’s Cleansing Volumizing Paste, which turns into a lather, cleansing and adding fullness to hair, from roots to ends. Dry-scalp sufferers should reach for Laura’s tried-and-tested solution, Oribe’s Serene Scalp Shampoo. The exfoliating formula soothes dry skin in a gentle yet effective way. Full of nourishing, shine-giving plant oils, Philip B’s Peppermint & Avocado Shampoo is the best everyday cleanser we’ve found.
A great shampoo needs an equally brilliant conditioner. Ever since hairstylist George Northwood recommended Pureology Pure Hydrate, it has been a staple in our bathroom cabinets and offers an intense hydration hit for dry and damaged hair. Fine, frizzy hair will benefit hugely from Philip B’s Weightless Conditioning Water, which smoothes without adding weight. For banishing tangles with ease, Christophe Robin’s Leave-In Mist is genius when spritzed onto damp locks.
When hair needs extra TLC, these effective treatments are bathroom-shelf staples. Petro was recommended Virtue’s cult Split End Serum by super-stylist Elizabeth Saltzman, and has found it the one thing that truly seals damaged ends and prevents breakage. For a deep scalp cleanse, we love Ouai’s detoxing Scalp & Body Scrub which uses sugar to remove build-up, coconut oil to nourish, and doubles up as a body exfoliator. Nothing restores shine after a stint in the sun like Gloss Moderne’s Clean Luxury Masque. The clean formula combines coconut oil with shea and cocoa butter, and can be left on overnight.
A hard-working hairstyler is the difference between a good hair day and a bad one, and they don’t come any more multitasking than Bumble and Bumble’s Prêt-à-Powder. Lightly dust over roots to absorb oil and give instant volume. Our ultimate hairspray can’t be anything but Hair by Sam McKnight’s Easy-Up Do, which offers supreme grip and chic, undone texture for effortless up-dos. The best beachy waves come from Innersense’s I Create Waves. Spritz into damp hair and allow the blend of pink Himalayan salt and aloe vera to create a soft, non-crunchy texture.
As self-confessed bath addicts, we’ve tried our fair share of products, but only a rarefied few take permanent residence on our bathroom shelves. Batch #001’s Salt & Oil Soaks are the best of their kind that we’ve tried, combining Dead Sea and Himalayan salts with organic essential oils to detox, hydrate and rejuvenate. Just three drops of Bamford’s organic Rose Bath Oil, which contains a blend of therapeutic essential oils, transforms bath time into a calming, restorative ritual. The non-drying formula of Chanel No 5 The Bath Gel, foams up to give a luxurious lather, with a scent that lingers for the entire day.
Not all body washes are created equal and we think paying attention to this everyday essential makes all the difference. On a trip to New York we fell in love with Ursa Major Morning Mojo bar which contains moisturising honey and Shea butter and exfoliating volcanic rock. For morning pick-me-ups, REN’s sulfate-free gel wash lathers in to a nourishing wash with fresh mood-boosting scent. When skin is feeling dry, L’Occitane almond oil-infused wash is our in-shower go-to.
In constant rotation in our own beauty kits, body moisturisers don’t come better than these. Salvation Oil by name, salvation oil by nature, de Mamiel’s plant-based oil nurtures and hydrates skin and is the ultimate post-bath pamper. Fuss-free but big on performance, Kiehl’s classic Creme de Corps gives non-sticky hydration that soothes the driest of skin. Herbivore’s Rose Quartz Illuminating Oil contains a blend of all-natural botanical ingredients to offer fast-absorbing hydration and a subtle luminous glow. Perfect for summer nights.
The thin and sensitive nature of underarm skin means that switching to a non-toxic deodorant is a good idea. What’s more, developments in formulations mean that clean iterations are more effective than ever. Aurelia Probiotic Skincare’s Botanical Cream Deodorant dries to a fine, moisture-absorbing powder that keeps you dry all day. Stick lovers should reach for Susanne Kaufmann’s Deostick, which targets bacteria and leaves a fresh scent. We love the natural blend of oils in Aesop’s Déodorant Roll-On, which neutralises odour and has a pleasant woody fragrance.
A true beauty ICON, the timeless appeal of Chanel No 5’s heady floral-cum-powdery scent, with gentle citrus top notes, makes it the classic fragrance that we reach for time and again. Launched last year, the blend of white blossom, warm balsam and creamy sandalwood in Tom Ford’s Métallique Eau De Parfum, has earned a place in Laura’s forever beauty kit. We’re impressed with Sana Jardin’s entire clean-fragrance offering, which empowers female workers by preserving artisan traditions. With its sunny orange-blossom and neroli-oil scent, Berber Blonde is Petro’s daily go-to.
