  • Spring Facials

Healthy, glowing skin is a balancing act that can feel off-kilter with the season switch. We often find one of the fastest ways to correct that feeling is with a spring facial. To that end, team ICONS went off in four different directions in search of happier complexions. Here’s what we discovered.

    SIGNATURE ELECTRICAL FACIAL AT FACEGYM
    Multi-Vitamin Pro-Age Stick£ 38.50

The whole concept of this facial is that it really is a workout for your skin – it’s not all that relaxing and the more sessions you get, the better the results. I had the Signature Electrical at FACEGYM, a 40-minute treatment that includes vigorous massage, a serum worked into skin with a jade-roller and stone, and their signature muscle manipulation. This last part is achieved with a hand-held device that uses radio frequency to tone – a gel is smoothed onto skin, and the device mostly tingles. Afterwards, my skin (which is super-sensitive) felt much firmer and I honestly thought my cheekbones looked more defined. I’d like to go back for the Party Face treatment, which includes the toning device and a Skin IV, which is a topical boost of acids, peptides and vitamins.

LONDON MONTHLY MAINTENANCE FACIAL WITH RHIAN TRUMAN
    No.1 Nourishing Face Serum£ 88

When I arrived for my London Monthly Maintenance Facial with Rhian Truman, the first thing that struck me was her skin. It was absolutely glowing, so I knew I was in good hands. I also loved that she doesn’t work with any particular brands, which makes her like a chemist, mixing and matching formulas to suit your skin. Facials can sometimes feel like a production line with the same old steps, but this was totally bespoke. The facial itself was like skin therapy: there was steaming and expert extraction, which I loved, and then high-frequency and sequenced massage. Wow. At one point I wondered if she had three hands. Honestly, the hour and a half treatment was as good for my soul as my skin. Afterwards, I felt glowy and refreshed.

CRYOTONING FACIAL AT THE WELLNESS PEOPLE
    Blemish + Age Defense Serum£ 85

The word I most often use to describe my skin is tired. But to be truthful, it’s how I look even after 12 hours sleep. Because I think it’s really about being in my forties. So I needed a facial that would do more heavy-lifting than massage and hydration allows, but that has no down-time or pain. The answer was a 30-minute Cryotoning Facial with the lovely Roshni (a doctor) at The Wellness People. Here’s how it works: a very cold handheld device passes over skin, boosting circulation and causing a noticeable tightening in the short term; then, over a course of treatments, it boosts collagen, which is what really makes skin look younger. Good news: Roshni has kindly offered our readers 50% off their first treatment. Use code WI50 when booking.

GUA SHA ODACITÉ FACIAL AT SPACE NK
    Bl+C Pimples Serum Concentrate£ 32
     data-srcset

I already loved the premise of Odacité before my Gua Sha mini-facial: completely clean formulas created by Valerie Grandury, who overhauled her life (and skin) to rid it of toxins, after recovering from breast cancer. She made products for herself and then friends… and beyond. The treatment, which takes place at the Space NK skincare counter, is part facial, part diagnosis. In the 30-minute appointment my skin was cleansed twice, then a bespoke serum was built from three oil blends. In my case, it targeted combination skin, clogged pores and blemishes. The serum was massaged into skin with a large, smooth stone (which I have started using at home). Afterwards, my complexion looked healthier and, almost two weeks on, clearer too. The facial costs £25 (redeemable for product) and can be booked over the phone.
