When we started W. ICONS 10 years ago, I had actually been working on a personal project for a few years…
…a blog called Wearing It Today, which was essentially a little snapshot of what a fashion editor wore to work. After a while, I realised that I was becoming increasingly interested in what women were wearing and achieving, whether that was within my industry or outside of it. So, when Petro and I developed the concept for W. ICONS, we determined never to lose the editorial aspect that we were both experts in. That’s why, to this day, we continue to produce issues of ICONS, our digital magazine.
It really is quite special to be able to feature incredible women and their stories, and this month is no exception, with A-list movie star and entrepreneur Scarlett Johansson gracing our pages. Our acting content director, Bibby Sowray, asked the actor to tell us about her new venture, a skincare line called The Outset. In the interview, Scarlett discusses the story behind the brand, why she wanted to bring it to market and her struggles with her own skin. She also offers some insight into how she manages her different professional interests along with motherhood. Read it on page 7The ExpertsScarlett Johansson.
Going back to fashion, we have some incredible features in this issue. I passed the baton to Petro for this year’s ICONS Guide To Packing, which you can find on page 9Icons GuidePetro’s Ultimate Guide To Packing. I’ve compiled this feature for many years, so I wanted to see what Petro has taken from her vast experience, too. Shot beautifully by Eva K. Salvi, this guide will be so useful if you’re heading off on your travels this summer, and beyond. Petro has also put together an edit of tableware and accessories for alfresco dining on page 16LifestyleThe Alfresco Table, while this issue’s Style Sheet, on page 13Style Sheet4 Ways To Style A Striped Shirt, focuses on the ultimate staple, the bold-striped shirt, and our Unexpected Hero, on page 14Unexpected HeroOrange, is orange. I’ve developed a sudden and quite addictive relationship with the colour recently, having bought an orange bag and an orange dress. It’s a colour that we immediately associate with summer, but it will look amazing in the autumn, too, paired with browns, olive green and beige, so it’s a great investment.
