Issue 275: Ed’s Letter

Words By

This issue is about the basics, essentials and classics that are the building blocks of your wardrobe – the everlasting pieces that we talk about often but never tire of.

That’s why we couldn’t think of a better cover star than Anine Bing, who has built her business on providing women with curated essentials that they’ll love and wear for years. We’ve long been admirers, and she was actually one of our very first cover stars, so we’re delighted to be featuring her again. Always an inspiration to chat to, she offers some valuable advice on building a business from the ground up, and so much more.

Carrying on with the theme, Des and I have picked the essentials we can’t live without; for us, basic never means boring – it’s a crucial part of putting an outfit together. And, with that in mind, our ICONS Guide is all about denim. Polly has pulled together the key styles to invest in now and wear on repeat, with some really helpful tips on how to style them and what exactly to look for when you go jeans shopping.

We’ve also looked at four different ways to style everyone’s favourite basic, the grey crew neck, and our Top 10 is wool blazers – coming into spring, it’s a key basic that we think belongs in every wardrobe. Polly has also compiled a fantastic edit of pre-spring essentials in collaboration with NET-A-PORTER, in which you’ll find everything you need to feel great during the upcoming – and sometimes tricky-to-dress-for – between-seasons period. Finally, we’re casting a spotlight on Victoria Beckham’s beautiful collaboration with Breitling, which takes the iconic Chronomat timepiece and gives it a contemporary spin to create a heirloom-worthy watch that we love.

I’m taking the reins this week as Laura is unwell, but she’ll be back with you for the next issue. Until then…
