A cosy and stylish stay awaits at this restored 13th-century inn, which once hosted Charles Dickens and Jane Austen. Rooms major in English country charm with wood panelling, colour-drenched walls and claw-footed baths. However, you won’t want to stay inside; pull on your walking boots, grab the lead and yomp through the bucolic Surrey Hills. Don’t worry if the dog gets muddy – each pet stay (up to two for £20) includes a shampoo, as well as a bed and treats.
For a pooch-perfect city escape, Gleneagles Townhouse is your go-to. The historic building in Edinburgh’s New Town (which once housed the Bank of Scotland) has been converted into a decadent hotel with a wellness studio, rooftop bar and spa. Up to two dogs (no bigger than a labrador) can stay in some rooms for £100 a night each, where bed, bowls and biscuits are provided. Take them for a climb up to Arthur’s Seat, then leave them snoozing in your room while you have dinner at The Spence.
Escape to the trees and book into a luxurious Hive or Treehouse cabin at Wildhive Callow Hall in the Peak District. Set in an ancient forest, it’s the perfect setting to decompress and find your inner calm. So, too, is the hall’s serene wellness centre, where you can book a botanical massage and sound therapy – or even a forest-bathing session. Four-legged friends can stay for £30 per dog, per stay and will be greeted with a bed, bowl and treats.
Set in a leafy 60-acre estate in the Cotswolds, Estelle Manor has plenty of grounds for morning walkies. Take a stroll through the Oxfordshire countryside, before enjoying breakfast in the dog-friendly Orangery. While the opulent Manor House rooms are just for humans, dogs are welcome in the Walled Garden and Stable rooms and suites, as well as the cottages and houses, for £60 per stay. Give the dog a bone and head to the hotel’s Roman-inspired Eynsham Baths spa for ultimate R&R.
We defy any dog not to love a trip to New Park Manor, where rooms come with a bed, bowl, ball and treats. There’s even a dog-friendly room-service menu. Thanks to its situation in the heart of the New Forest, you won’t be short of green spaces to explore. Finish long walks with a dog-friendly afternoon tea in the manor’s beautiful lounge. Dogs are welcome to stay in all rooms (except Cosy Rooms) for £25 a night.
This historic hotel is the perfect Cotswolds escape. Located just outside of Oxford, with quaint villages in the surrounding area, it boasts a decadent restaurant and relaxing spa. Up to two medium-sized dogs can join for £25 a night, but make sure to call before you book, as only certain rooms have the space for furry friends.
If a city escape is what you’re after, look no further than The Twenty Two in London. Located in the heart of Mayfair, the hotel is walking distance from prime neighbourhoods such as Soho and the West End. Even better yet, it’s only a stone’s throw from Hyde Park, the perfect place for your city pooch to roam and feel as if they’re in the countryside (within the off-leash designated areas, of course). The Twenty Two even allows for pets to stay at no extra cost, but bedtime comes early, as no pets are allowed in the shared spaces after 5pm.
Embrace the laid-back Cornish way of life at the beachside Watergate Bay Hotel, where days start with a sea-view coffee and end with sundowners on the sand. There’s a spa and heated pool for indoor relaxing. Or spend the day enjoying the bay – widely regarded as one of the best beaches in Cornwall and dog-friendly. Up to two dogs can stay in any room for £20 a night (£15 for one dog). They can even come for family dinner at the hotel’s The Living Space or Beach Hut restaurants.
Get your ocean fix with a side of luxury at The Nici on Bournemouth’s south coast. The mood is more Miami beach club than Great British seaside, with a 30-metre heated pool and striped cabanas… but pack your waterproofs just in case. Dogs are welcome in the Garden Suites for an additional £30 a night per pet, with beds and bowls provided. Human guests will enjoy the private terrace and hot tub.
Family trips don’t get more easy-breezy than Three Mile Beach – a collection of beach houses which come with chic coastal interiors, sunken cedar hot tubs and barrel saunas. Each house is stocked with towels, board games, beach toys and Land & Water bath products. There’s also a fully equipped kitchen for relaxed self-catered meals and tapas available at the hotel’s street-food truck. Each beach house can accommodate up to two dogs (although you can request for more); a fee of £50 for each pet will apply for every stay.
