How To Wear Spring’s Key Colour Combinations

Natural & Neutral
Perhaps the easiest way to ease into spring dressing is to switch dark winter neutrals for a paler palette of tan, sand and taupe. Not only is this a low-effort approach, as neutral tones mix effortlessly together, they look polished when worn head-to-toe, too. Start with the palest colour – an oatmeal knit, for example, then add in richer shades to keep the outfit anchored.
Earthy Tones
Not only are earthy tones an easy gateway into spring colour, they also tap into the ’70s bohemian mood that feels especially relevant this season. Texture play is important when doing these more muted tones; mixing tactile suede with corduroy and polished leather will prevent your palette from becoming sludgy. Add brightness and warmth with gold jewellery.
After-Dark Monochrome
Mastering spring evening wear can be tricky, as temperatures are often still chilly when the sun goes down. However, a light touch can be achieved without compromising on warmth by reaching for monochrome. Freshen up your black knitted dress by layering a white tailored jacket over the top. Replacing leather accessories for soft suede will add further springtime appeal.
A Pop Of Primary
Lighten the mood of your 9-5 trouser suit by swapping out your white top for zingy red. Lean towards a tomato tone, which works especially well with dark grey. You can keep the rest of the outfit components low-key; white trainers and a black shoulder bag strike the smart-but-cool balance. Tie everything together with a coordinating red manicure.
Playful Pistachio
Break out of your blue-jeans-and-grey-top cycle by adding in a hit of pistachio. The easiest way to do this is in tonal layers: a pale green silk shirt under a coordinating blazer feels feminine without tipping into girly. Double down with a pistachio ballet pump, then mix in an off-white bag and sunglasses.
Burgundy & Navy
While a spring palette often favours softer tones, mixing up richer colours will still create a sense of seasonal freshness. A case in point is navy and burgundy – the perfect duo for when you want to keep things slick. Bring your navy midi skirt into the new season by styling it with a burgundy sweater. Add your navy trench and tote, finishing with oxblood shoes.
