Denim is an essential in every classic wardrobe, so much so that we consider it a neutral – a piece that goes with pretty much anything. As it moves into focus as a key fabric for the spring/summer season, so too does double denim. Though it might seem a daunting look to pull off at first glance, it’s actually the perfect minimum-effort-maximum-impact outfit. Keep it simple for a low-key daytime look or pair with heels and statement accessories to elevate it to relaxed evening status.
Top Tips
Break it up. If top-to-toe blue is too much for you, don’t worry. Add in some easy layering pieces, like a simple white T-shirt or tank under an open denim shirt.
Don’t be afraid to accessorise – if you want to. The beauty of double denim is that it looks great with minimal accessories but also carries bolder statement jewellery, bags and shoes with ease. A truly multifunctional look.
Loosen up. Skin-tight denim doesn’t work for this look (it pulls it into catsuit territory, so opt for looser styles, such as wide-leg jeans and an oversized shirt.
Top Tips
Consider colours. You don’t need to match your denim washes exactly but keep them in the same family – this look works best if they’re close but not identical in tone.
Adding heels is an easy way to create an impactful but casually chic evening look – we love it with barely-there sandals or delicate slingbacks.
Think about rise. A high-waist jean creates a more elegant silhouette by adding definition at the waist.
