Issue 258: Ed's Letter

Words By

To be honest, I’m not sure what happened to spring this year…

…It’s almost the end of May and I still haven’t sported a bare leg. So, we’re taking an approach to summer in the city that’s a little more covered up than it has been in the past, and looking at those pieces that make up the perfect transitional wardrobe.

We begin with our cover star, Josefina Alazraki, the founder of resort-wear label Casa Raki, and someone who has truly mastered the art of holiday dressing – all of her pieces feel so timeless but with a twist. On page 2Perfect WardrobeJosefina Alazraki, she takes us into her London home, where she shares the most treasured pieces in her own collection and tells us the story behind Casa Raki and how she navigates dressing for summer in the city.

If there’s one piece I always recommend investing in, it’s a great bag. It has the power to elevate every look instantly, even a simple T-shirt-and-jeans combo. In the last few years, I’ve really admired the way Loewe has transformed into such a modern, covetable brand; creative director Jonathan Anderson has managed to reinvent the concept of ‘classic’ in such a clever way. To discover the collection’s versatility, turn to page 3ShootsLoewe My Way, where the W.ICONS team have selected their favourite Loewe bags and styled them their way.

Our fashion director Polly has put together some helpful features for this issue. Style Sheet on page 7Style Sheet4 Ways To Style A Mini Skirt focuses on the mini skirt – we debated the best way to wear it to make it feel appropriate and grown-up, and we’re sure you’ll agree that the resulting outfits are truly elegant. Having added the featured ARKET skirt to my own wardrobe, I can safely say that the pockets and utilitarian touch make it super-wearable (always with flats, though!). Top 10 on page 4Top TenThe 10 Best Chunky Sandals is a round-up of gorgeous chunky sandals – the shoe of the moment – and our Unexpected Hero on page 5Unexpected HeroThe Waistcoat is the waistcoat, a real wardrobe transformer.

Our Guest Edit on page 6The Guest EditMonikh Dale's Hotlist is provided by the wonderful Monikh Dale. I’m a huge admirer of her style – she has a great way of wearing clothes and not letting them wear her. Then, our featured brand for Spotlight On is The Fold, a label we really love for summer-in-the-city style – find out more on page 8Spotlight OnHow The Fold Mastered Workwear. For Beauty Focus, on page 9, Petro and I have road-tested our favourite beauty subscription service, Beauty Pie. I cannot recommend the vitamin C capsules and SPF enough. Finally, we have an exciting competition with Meder Beauty, offering you the chance to win a personalised skincare system worth up to £750 – find out how to enter on page 10.

Wishing you all an amazing summer!

Laura (& Petro)
