Issue 260: Ed’s Letter

As I write this Editor’s Letter, there’s just a week to go until the launch of this issue…
…It’s an issue that’s been in the making for months and one that I’m particularly excited about. I met our cover star, Sabrina Dhowre Elba, at a beauty launch in January and we connected instantly. She has such warmth and a beautiful friendliness about her. She told me about her new company, S’ABLE Labs, which she founded with her husband, Idris Elba, and I told her to come and see us in the office and tell us all about it – assuming she’d never show up. A few weeks later, there she was, wearing a simple T-shirt and jeans, to discuss all things collaboration.
The result has been not only a wonderful new friendship and a beautiful cover but also, for those of you who are going to attend our first ICONS In Residence this coming weekend, a series of events in which Sabrina is also involved. For our cover shoot, styled by Polly and directed by Petro, we shot her at The Invisible Collection, the location for ICONS In Residence, and, on page 2The ExpertsSabrina Dhowre Elba, you’ll find our interview with her, in which she discusses the origins and ethos of S’ABLE Labs, her take on wellness and her aspirations for the future as a CEO, activist and humanitarian.
Elsewhere in the issue, whether you’re preparing for a holiday, busy working, keen to try a new trend or simply seeking some style inspiration, we’ve got your covered. First up, we’ve created an edit of the best swimsuits on page 5Top TenThe 10 Best Swimsuits and bikinis on page 6Top TenThe 10 Best Bikinis, to make your holiday shopping a little easier. Polly has also put together four brilliant ways to style Bermuda shorts – a divisive but surprisingly versatile piece – on page 8Style Sheet4 Ways To Style Bermuda Shorts, and curated a selection of the best neutral pieces in earthy linens, raffia and crochet that will slot easily into your forever wardrobe on page 3Curated by W.ICONSThe New Neutrals. Speaking of crochet, that’s our unexpected summer hero on page 9Unexpected HeroCrochet, while Pippa Holt, the incredibly chic founder of Pippa Holt Kaftans, shares her current wish list on page 7The Guest EditPippa Holt’s Hotlist.
We’re really excited to be working with a new brand partner – the iconic Ralph Lauren. It’s a brand that really focuses on quality, something that aligns perfectly with our own ethos. Petro and our fashion editor-at-large, Deborah Brett, model the ICONS edit of summer essentials from the latest collection on page 4ShootsThe Summer Essentials Edit.
When it comes to beauty, this issue we’re spotlighting STELLA by Stella McCartney skincare. In my opinion, it’s one of the most exciting launches of the year. I’ve been using the Alter-Care Serum for over a month and I really vouch for its ability to make the skin feel supple and nourished – find out more about it on page 10Spotlight OnSTELLA by Stella McCartney. I’ve also personally reviewed four products that will help you get summer-ready in Beauty Focus on page 11Beauty FocusSummer Skin.
I can’t wait to see some of you at our ICONS In Residence event, kicking off this Friday with some brilliant talks. There may still be some tickets available; make sure you check using this link.
