Issue 264: Ed’s Letter

Words By

Unfailingly, at this time of year a friend or family member will ask me: “Laura, what’s in fashion this season?” At W. ICONS, we approach this question a little differently.

We ask ourselves: “What never goes out of fashion and how can we find looks on the catwalk that may already be in our wardrobes but could be reinterpreted?” That’s exactly how we’ve approached the Trend Report on page 2, which is a beautiful, distilled and considered edit of those looks that feel like a forever investment.

Following on with that idea in mind, this issue’s ICONS Guide is a helping hand to respin some of your favourite items with some smart styling tricks. Find that on page 3. Then we look at the top 10 wish-list items from an accessories point of view on page 4. From the bag to the boots of the season, we’ve curated an edit of the hot-ticket investments that will instantly make any outfit look fantastic.

Our Unexpected Hero on page 6 is chocolate brown. We’ve seen it a lot over the summer, but it’s a great colour for autumn and winter as well, to layer with different shades and comfortably wear head-to-toe. And for our latest Style Sheet, we’ve looked at the slip dress, which we think of as a great between-seasons piece that can be layered up with knitwear, worn with boots or dressed up for the evening – see Polly’s beautiful styling ideas on page 7.

Finally, for our Guest Edit, we have a London Fashion Week designer whom I really admire – Edeline Lee. She shares her favourite buys, from fashion to beauty and lifestyle, on page 5. And don’t miss your chance to win £900 to spend on a new-season bag at luxury brand J&M Davidson. Simply head to page 8 to enter.

I really hope you enjoy this issue. Make sure you approach the new season mindfully, and every time you buy something new, think about how it’s going to change the way you dress and for how long.
