As autumn draws near, we’re beginning to think about small changes we can make to update our cool-weather wardrobes while still making the most of the occasional balmy late-summer days. For us, this means easing into a more autumnal palette, but not diving headfirst into darker colours like black and navy. Chocolate brown is the perfect middle ground, providing a sense of richness and warmth without looking too wintry. These are the W. ICONS tips for wearing it well now.
Top Tips
Add a slice of white. If head-to-toe chocolate brown isn’t for you, simply add in some white or cream pieces to break it up.
Think of it as a neutral. Though less common, brown is a neutral, so when buying pieces in the shade, think of it as you would black, grey or navy and invest in classic items like timeless knitwear, wear-everywhere dresses and tailoring.
Stick to gold jewellery. The warmth of chocolate brown is perfectly complemented by gold.
Top Tips
Keep accessories neutral. While brown plays well with bolder colours such as orange, it’s most chic when worn with other neutrals, like camel, beige and black.
Autumn or winter wedding on the horizon? Chocolate brown is the perfect shade and looks elegant in evening pieces.
One of the simplest ways to incorporate the colour into your existing wardrobe is via tailoring. Opt for an oversized blazer paired with denim or wide-leg tailored trousers and a simple white tee.
