We’re all the same – come April we can’t bear the sight of a coat or a jumper. We are desperate for bare legs and pretty dresses. Sadly, for most of us, it’s too cold to indulge in these summery delights, but that doesn’t mean you can’t still spring forward into the new season. With these five looks you can indulge SS18 trends without catching pneumonia – and they’re also Wardrobe ICONS forever buys.Â
A classic year-round staple, the crisp white shirt has been all over the runways. Ideal for an urban summer, it works well with this season’s wrap skirt, as seen at Victoria Beckham. Alternatively give it an upgrade and wear in the evening with embellished palazzo trousers, a stylish half tuck and flat sandals, inspired by Michael Kors. Finally, follow the likes of Daks and Tod’s and wear it with an equally crisp white skirt for an alternative to our favourite little white dress.
If you are a fan of jeans, look no further than the spring alternative of the denim skirt. Just as comfortable and easy to wear, but with an element of effortless style. We pull ours out season after season for everything from weekend events to more casual work meetings. This season, Reijna Pyo and Carolina Herrera teamed theirs with an elegant summer blouse for a feminine finish, while Tibi went for a more slick, sporty look. Either way it’s a great way to ease your legs into summer.
If, like us, your blazer gets neglected in the winter months, now is the time to give it a dry clean and get ready to wear it! With 90s nostalgia sweeping the catwalks, we’ve been given the green light to wear it with everything from city shorts as seen at Phillip Lim, to matching crop tops and skirts – it’s one way of hiding our less-toned stomachs, at least. The great thing is you probably already have one and if you don’t you can certainly invest safe in the knowledge that it’s one cover-up you’ll wear lots this spring, summer and quite a few seasons after that.
Dresses are big news this SS18, but few are as appropriate for right now as the shirt dress. Often with sleeves and made from slightly thicker material, these are the spring alternative to lightweight silks and chiffons. They look amazing with a trench, as seen at Derek Lam, or belted as at Altuzzara. We are pulling ours out to wear with our trainers and denim jackets for the perfect off-duty look.Â
Otherwise known as the Carrie Bradshaw sandal – there is nothing sturdy or masculine about these. They are the peep-toed, ankle-strapped, high-heeled pair you probably wear out to smart events. Guaranteed to make all ankles look delicate and give even the most unshapely calves definition. They can even be worn with sheer tights for another month or so, as seen at Erdem. Then embrace pedicures and taxis with this season’s prettiest heeled sandal.
