As we prepare to celebrate New Year’s Eve and the beginning of 2018, we look back at our favourite moments of 2017 – the successes, the achievements and the fun times.
Wow – what a year 2017 has been! From the launch of ICONS tv in January to a redesigned site in the spring and finally being reunited after our maternity breaks, the Wardrobe ICONS team has seen one of our busiest years to date. We welcomed three new members to the team and celebrated our third birthday with some of the most stylish women in the industry, but as we looked back at the past 12 months we realised that the highlights have been those moments where we had a connection to our readers. Our Wardrobe ICONS at Home Instagram Live sessions; our exclusive reader events – the moments that allowed us to meet you all were extra-special. So, while reminiscing over our 2017 achievements, we wanted to take the opportunity to thank each one of you for your support and feedback. All this has only been possible because of your loyalty.
In early January we launched our YouTube channel ICONS tv with a series of videos on how to organise your wardrobe. From bags to jewellery, shoes to knitwear, there is no stone we’ve left unturned.
After moving house and undergoing works to her new home to accommodate a family of four, Laura showed us her brand new wardrobe and proved that you can achieve a walk-in wardrobe in small spaces, too.
We loved having you join us on Instagram live for our Wardrobe ICONS at home… events, which tackled all of the ICONS girls’ interests: from a cookery class with chef Nina Parker, to a lesson in calligraphy with Lucy from Quill London and a special book reading for our kids with Sophy Henn, it’s been lovely to share these experiences with you from our homes.
It was only after we struggled to secure the right woman to appear on the cover of our Mother’s Day issue, that we looked at each other and realised that we could share our own thoughts and experiences as working mothers. We loved having our little gang on set for a day and opening up on the subject of motherhood combined with running a business.
The Wardrobe ICONS team is growing and this year we hired three new members of staff, including our LA-based West Coast contributing editor, Carrie Robertson. Carrie shot her first cover for The ICONS Update with ‘Always Judging‘ blogger Courtney Trop. If you don’t already, you must follow her stylish Californian life on Instagram @carrie_robertson.
In June we finally unveiled our brand-new website! One year in the making and a LOT of work in the background, the fully redesigned site took in all your helpful feedback. Fully mobile responsive and with a new log-in area that includes the possibility to add items to your personal wish-list, the new site allows for a much better user experience and enjoyment of our e-zine The ICONS Update and new weekend newsletter ICONS weekend. The Serpentine Summer Party in June saw Chanel hosting a fabulous event in Kensington Gardens that we attended with our equally fabulous editor-at-large, Deborah Brett. This fun evening where fashion meets art was topped off by a live performance by Rita Ora that saw us dancing and singing under the stars.
As our first Perfect Wardrobe cover star since the redesign and making her mark in a fabulous Peter Pilotto pink frock after her maternity, Petro also opened the doors to her London home to give us a tour of her fabulous new wardrobe. Her signature blue walk-in closet has become one of our all-time favourite shoots.
It was an honour to feature the icon that is Bella Freud on the cover of The ICONS Update as our August The Expert, and to host an exclusive reader event in her eponymous London store that saw so many of you attending. Readers enjoyed champagne, canapés, 20% off across the range and a beautiful full-size candle in their goodie bags.
After two seasons apart, September saw us at London Fashion Week followed by Paris, attending some of the most beautiful fashion shows in the world. A highlight was the Chanel show hosted at the Grand Palais on a beautiful sunny autumn’s day.
October saw us congratulating Laura on the launch of her jewellery collection with demi-fine jewellery site Otiumberg, LFxOtiumberg. The seven-piece capsule collection features 14kt gold-plated earrings, necklaces and bangles inspired by the purity of circles. Expect to find the perfect everyday hoop and the ideal necklace to be worn over jumpers.
Throughout 2017 we partnered up with Bicester Village to create a unique opportunity to shop from the likes of Chloé, Celine, Jimmy Choo, Dolce & Gabbana, Smythson and more at sensationally discounted prices. By signing up to the initiative, readers would receive their ICONS girl Welcome Pack and benefit from an extra 10% off their shopping, plus handsfree shopping on the day. We loved showing you what we bought on Instagram Stories and seeing what made it into your wardrobes when you #ICONSgirl on your feeds!
In November, to mark our third anniversary, we threw a party at London’s Chess Club co-hosted with Flowerbx founder Whitney Bromberg Hawkings. The dinner united many ICONS girls, including Caroline Issa, Kim Hersov, Racil Chalhoub and Chloe Lonsdale. It was an wonderful night to celebrate the incredibly talented women who have supported us over the past three years of The ICONS Update!
To finish the year in style and wish our readers a merry Christmas, we hosted our first reader event with Anya Hindmarch at their beautiful three-floor store on Bond Street in London. We loved chatting to attendees about our shared love for all things Anya; from leather alphabet stickers to the must-have selection of nylon pouches and newly launched Anya Smells fragranced candles, there was something for everyone.
