We are so excited to bring you our third annual beauty awards, where we get to shine a spotlight on the products that have gone above and beyond to earn a spot in our bathroom cabinets. This is a real labour of love; Petro and I, along with our beauty columnist Ava, have spent months trialling products, dissecting formulas and discussing our favourites, to bring you a comprehensive guide to the very best skincare, make-up, hair and body products that we think every woman should own. We’ve tried to cover every beauty need, in the hope that all of our readers will find something they love.
We couldn’t have a beauty issue without a fabulous cover star – or rather two. This year, we are delighted to feature Abi Oyepitan and Liha Okunniwa, the best friends who founded natural beauty brand LIHA. It isn’t just their commitment to natural ingredients and sustainable processes, or their wellbeing-first approach to beauty, that resonate with me. I love their ‘less is more’ ethos, which really chimes with what we believe at W.ICONS. Read their interview with Frankie on page 2.
Our former cover star, who featured in our very first beauty issue, Bobbi Brown, is back. The make-up maestro has launched Jones Road, a range of clean, hard-working essentials that has already garnered a cult following (and several team ICONS fans). My favourite? The face pencil: a concealer/foundation/BB cream all in one. Turn to page 6 to discover the items currently on Bobbi’s hotlist.
For this issue, I had the pleasure of testing the industry-renowned FaceGym workout. A facial like no other, it involves strategic massage to lift, sculpt and define without the need for invasive treatment. As someone who is yet to explore the world of injectables, I was so impressed with the result, and can thoroughly recommend trying it out at one of their nationwide studios. Discover more about the brand, and its range of at-home products, in our Spotlight On feature.
And finally, because we wanted to bring some fashion into the issue, we’ve put together a Style Sheet on the outfits to wear with a pop of red – whether its lipstick, blusher or nail polish, it’s the ultimate cosmetic transformer.
I really hope you enjoy this issue. If the last few years have emphasised anything to me, it’s the importance of taking care of yourself. Beauty is a joyful way of doing that, whether you’re investing in a new gadget, booking in for a salon treatment or simply spending an extra five minutes in the shower doing a hair mask. The wellbeing benefits of taking a moment just for you cannot be underestimated. I hope this special issue helps inform and inspire you to do just that.
